Renew XM Radio for $77 for 12 months (Part 4). See sticky for Part 5.
#402
Just called, was prepared to cancel, so after all the apologies the CSR transfers me to another department where the gentlemen again apologized and asked why. I told him that I could not justify spending more than $77 per year on a service that I "don't use often"  He then offered me a discount of 23% off the rack rate. I told him that it was still too much; so then he offered me the same $77 rate plus applicable taxes for another year.

Hi all, I own a 2008 Cadillac CTS and knew about this because I helped my cousin with a 2008 TL Type S. I just tried this myself and got the Radio and NavTraffic and Weather updates for $134 a year after tax ($77 + $48 + tax). Anyway, thanks for the info!

OK... Thanks guys!!!! I let my free 3 months expire. And this is exactly how and what I did...
I called them, told them that I would renew my service only if I could get the 12 months for $77. She asked me for a promotional code. I told her I dont have it, that I tossed it in the trash with the other 7 letters that XM has sent me (not true, as I only got one letter asking me to agree to pay around $144). She said ok, and gave me the 12 months for $77 no questions asked.
VERY EASY!!!!!
Thanks guys! You saved me $77!!!

Got the $77 deal
Just found on my mc statement $77 + taxes on 12/29 for 1 year renewal service.Do not remember even being asked to renew.but rate OK. Then on 1/15 a $5.31 chg and on 1/25 a $44.85 chg.
$5.31 is 10 day chg and 44.85 is quarterly chg for 2nd unit. Called xm w/number in earlier posting and talked to someone in Jamaica.
Said I did not authorize nor will I pay these rates for renewal and cancel both units unless adjustment is made.
He stated "hold on - not so fast" Do I understand you will cancel if not get $77 rate?
I said yes so he adjusted it but his math was bad and I corrected him. to the $77 - 44.85 and we agreed on $30 net add'tl on my bill for 2nd unit for 1 year.
Now I must wait to be sure of the proper billing on my card.
Thanks everyone for the info I was able to use to adjust rate.

I called the number in the letter (800-967-2346) to cancel the service. The first CSR told me he had to transfer me to the "cancellation department" (really the "retention squad"). There, they asked why.
I told them it was too expensive. He first offered me a 20% discounted rate. I said, "Still too expensive".
He said, "Hmm. Let me check your records here. I see you had the half-price deal last year. I can offer you that deal for $77 for the year."
I said, "Alright, you silver-tongued devil. You've talked me into it!"
I was prepared (per my instructions here) to actually cancel and then call after my Feb 15th renewal date and use the script, if necessary. It wasn't.
This is my 4th year at $77.

I just got this deal as well. 2nd yr in row. Called to cancel service. First lady said ok and transferred me to another sales guy. He offered $119. I said no thx, trying to payoff xmas bills. He said ok, is there anything we can do to keep you as a customer? I said, only the same $77 rate. He said ok, I can do that. Sweetness!!! Very Easy.

Got the $77 for 12 months!
Add another one that got the deal! Followed the script EXACTLY. My wife called since it is in her name and I wanted to keep things simple. Besides, she has a much nicer phone voice than I; but I digress.
She called up the number provided as our subscription was going to auto renew on February 14th per the letter we recently received. She told the rep that she wanted to allow our subscription to expire as it was too expensive. She give the person the radio id and confirmed some information. Then she gets transferred to someone else in another department (aka retention department). She tells the guy the same exact thing and was full expecting to have to let it expire and call back after it actually expired. However, the sales rep immediately offered her the $77 for 12 months; which she took. She didn't ask for it nor did they try to offer her a lesser deal. They just offered it immediately. We didn't have to let it expire or use the rest of the script. Nice!
The key here is that we didn't try to press it. Just be willing to let it expire; if necessary. Also, keep to the script. It is totally painless.
Thanks again Acurazine!

Thanks to this forum I was also able to get the 77 dollar rate. I called about a week ago. I just mentioned a flyer and she automatically knew I wanted the 77 dollar rate. No promo code required. Thanks Acurazine

I let my subscription expire (wasn't easy to do) after 4 years (Used the $77/year rate for the last two years). Today I received a new card in the mail about 1/2 price for a year. So it looks like I have an actual card with a "personal savings code" on it.... Probably the same deal though.

Thanks AZ, this is my second year @ $77. I first tried to call in January and got no where 30+ minutes on the phone where no one could understand me and vice-versa. Then eventually was hung up on for some reason.
Today I called, the call center person sounded like she was from the Caribbean and I could barely hear her with all of the background noises. I was then transferred to "cancellations" and spoke with someone from the states I assume. She asked why I wanted to cancel and I told her I hardly listen to XM so I can't justify spending $142 a year for it. She asked if $77 a year was worth it and I said sure I'll continue subscribing for that price. She giggled as if she knew the motives of the call, took payment and that's that.
It was quick and painless. The whole ordeal on the second call took less than 10 minutes on the phone.

It's amazing the good "luck" people have who follow the instructions and use the script.
