Remote Start w/ OEM Key Fab
I recently bought at '08 TL and am looking into adding a remote starter. Is it possible to turn the 'panic' button into the remote start button? Any suggestions?

i dont think that can be done with the oem key fob the installer that did mines programmed it to pressing the unlocked buttons twice or pressing unlock and lock to start the engine i have tried locked buttons twice it works but then the factory alarm comes on.

............................but you have to hit the lock button twice for the beep..........................
Anyway, the only R/S that I know of that allows you to use the OEM is the Valet 561T. That's what I have or will have (installing it myself and have been picking PeterUbers' brain clean for the past week). The R/S activates via pulses from the lock button on the fob which can be programmed for one press or three. Ya have to press the button once to lock the car, so that's not feasible. And if you have the KP module or just like to hear the car "beep", you best bet is to set it for three.

I actually spoke with a guy at an audio/alarm shop today about this. He said they'd program it to work with 3 or 4 pulses of the unlock button. That way, I'd still be able to lock the doors regularly and roll the windows up with a pulse and a hold (with KP Tech module). Also, unlock 1 door (with 1 pulse), 2 doors (with 2 pulses), and then start the car with the 3rd pulse.
That way, all the functions are retained and there isn't any problem. He said I'd be able to start the car from the inside door lock button (in the car) by doing the same thing with that button.
I haven't asked for a price just yet.

I've heard about the unlock/lock setting but if it's for the Valet, I couldn't find the feature in the instructions. And I'm not understanding what you mean about the factory alarm coming on. You press the unlock button, but once you press the lock button, it sets the alarm anyway, right?

The valet will work fine. Any DEI remstart system has an activation input wire(white/blue) which is used for this exact application. Just make sure that the installer diode isolates the wire because if you're in the car and hit the lock button the correct amount of times, the car is gonna start....
