I currently have SmartStart and I am loving it. I love the fact that I can start, lock, unlock, trunk, panic from anywhere in the world as long as I have internet on my phone

I have the smart start as well. It's well worth the money.

Does the smartstart also work say if the car gets stolen? Will it alert you or something like that? Like a lowjack type of system?

Im looking into getting a well worth alarm system. I had one car stolen before do not want my TL taken from me.

You can get SmartStart with GPS and all that security features where you can arm your car while your are at home or have your car parked at home and you are away. It works like home alarm so it will let you know as soon as somebody tries to open it or start it. But that is all additional $$

Is there a website that has the pricing for each additional service you guys are talking about like GPS, etc?

Also is there a monthly charge for just the basic smart start system?

Sounds interesting

I think that's just once per year fee of 80$

Perhaps a dumb question, but is there a Honda/Acura OEM solution for adding remote start to these cars?

No OEM solution as far as I know, but a lot of dealers in my area used the Valet 561T as their remote start option. I had mine installed elsewhere, and have nothing but good to say about the solution. I wanted to use my factory keyfob, and didn't care about not being able to start the car from 2 miles away.

I don't understand why anyone would want to remote start or lock/unlock their car from anywhere in the world. And on top of that pay for a monthly service to be able to do that.

I bought the least expensive crimestoppers remote start/alarm system from Amazon. It cost roughly $175 for the two way model and also includes the keyless bypass module. I can easily start/lock/unlock my car from a mile. It even works when my car is parked 3 levels underground.

I didn't want an additional remote hanging off my keychain. "The flip key is large as it is". So the smart start was an attractive solution for me.

It can be a useful feature. I bought this for my wife for christmas last year. She works in a hospital and it is nice to be able to start the car from anywhere. Sure there are other systems that work but she always carries her phone and she can do it right from the app. Although we have only used it for this a couple of times we have put something in the car for someone else and when they arrive in the parking lot we an unlock the car and they can retrieve it. Came in handy when my son had all his funidraiser sales for school.

You can also hide the keys in the car and just take your phone with you. One less thing to carry when you are out and about.

It can be a little gimmicky i suppose but it is pretty cool and does have some unique features. Plus my wife loves it so it is worth it to me i suppose.

I'm having DEI remote start installed in my 08TL in a couple weeks and I'm debating on the SmartStart option. I also need to check with insurance because I think they offer a discount if you have some kind of locator on the car. If an insurance discount will pay for the annual fee, I'm in.

I do like the idea of leaving a key in the car and just using your phone to unlock it, but I'm not sure if insurance would be okay with that, if the car got stolen.

My Clifford Matrix 50.7X RS/Alarm (same as Viper 5901) has been rock solid for 5 years now. I added glass break and tilt sensors and wired the rear defrost to come on with the remote start. I really don't have need for extended cellular range at this point, but there are add on modules available.

As far as tracking goes, I ran across this deal:

https://stacksocial.com/sales/carloc...r-subscription

Not a bad price for 3-years of cellular subscription plus tracking/notification. I suppose the major weakness is the OBD connector is easily disconnected and thrown out the window, assuming the idiots were smart enough to check for it.

if u were closer I could hook you up

amazon has the best pricing on the following then find a local shop to install it which is usually about $200 range

Viper 5706 alarm remote start system
DBAll2 bypass for factory immobilizer

and pick whichever of these works better for your needs
VSM200 (smart start)
VSM250 (smart start with gps)

You will need some sort of interface like the DBALL or Fortin
