Remote 12V amp trigger wire

Hi guys,

I'm starting to build my audio system this weekend. I've pretty much figured out all the details except for one. How do I get a 12V trigger for my three amps? Does the factory amp have a remote turn-on wire? I would guess it's probably a ground wire? So I'd need to use a relay to get 12V? Does anyone know, has anyone done this? Please let me know. Thanks!

Rob

there is an AMP turn-on wire which is the red/yellow wire(pin 7) on the black/white connector at the amp

if you go behind the radio it's the same color pin 11 in the grey connector, since the schematics don't say ground i am guessing they are all positive

The remote turn on wire to the factory amp is only 8 volts. I connected this to my aftermarket amp that required 12v and it did NOT work. You have to use a switched 12v source in the ignition. Someone else did this for me so I don't have the details.

Or maybe use the 8V to activate a relay which passes through a 12V... ok, well, thanks for the info!!

I checked out how mine is connected to the ignition.

First pop out the plastic panel under the steering wheel. Under the steering wheel there is a thick bundle of wires clad in plastic casing. It goes from the side of the car where the fuse box is to the steering wheel. Inside that bundle is a thick black wire. My remote wire is spliced into that. I don't know the technique for splicing into it but that's the wire you can use.

Thanks so much for checking that Zoser. I already have a switched 12V in the back for my navi conversion and all that, so maybe I'll just use that... My radio is pretty much always on anyway. I already tapped into the wire you speak of when I did my remote start install, so I know exactly which one you're talking about.

yeah, you could have used the amp turn on wire, then hooked that to a relay to get 12V

I wonder if an automotive relay would switch at 8V?
