IIRC, there is a app you can buy/download for free (not sure), a kit and it will work with the tablet. I remember seeing a kit at Verizon and was told purchase this kit and download the app.

Using the factory backup cam will be tough.

But, it's possible to use a webcam with a tablet. (

Using the "UVC video grabber card", you may be able to splice into the factory cam.

Check out this thread, a lot of mods to his truck with his Nexus 7 integration.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2113259

One of which is a backup cam.

Problem I see with the above method (in the video) is it takes up the USB port, which you need for power. I think the best implementation would be using Timur's USB-ROM for the N7.

Timur's USB-ROM allows for OTG. You can power and use USB devices at the same time with a standard OTG Y adapter. You can even use a USB hub for if you need more USB ports.

That's actually what I have in my car, I haven't done the back-up cam yet though.

Can just use a USB webcam with the ROM, no need for the extra bits.

Suppose if he wanted to use the factory cam he would probably need that though. Even then, functionality may not be perfect with the ROM though for the above option. Not everything is going to work out of the box, there really aren't drivers for it. I read some people are having issues with the logitech C270 webcam as an example.

Should work though, only way is to test and find out.

You also lose the reverse trigger, android isn't going to automatically switch to the camera input when you throw it in reverse. The guy in that thread used his joycon board to create a reverse trigger in combination with tasker to get it to work when he puts his truck in reverse.

In short it can be done, but not really a simple task to accomplish if you want the same functionality using the tablet.

Has anyone come up with a solution for this? I really want to do the Nexus 7 mod but I love the backup camera and want to keep the stock one.

Does anyone know how the camera is wired into the nav screen? I'm guessing through a multi-pin connector but if you could somehow convert that to a typical yellow video cable this would definitely be doable....

Just want to get the discussion going on this again as I don't see any other applicable threads.

Here is a thread from a Honda Odyssey forum where they have successfully used the stock backup camera and wired it into an aftermarket unit.

http://www.odyclub.com/forums/11-aud...v-display.html

There is a possibility that the wiring diagram shown for the pin connector that runs to the rear view mirror is similar to ours. If the wires are colored similarly we could definitely try and get the camera to display on any device that has a video input (portable DVD player). From there is should be straight forward using a UVC video grabber card or maybe something else......

Routing stock backup camera image to aftermarket nav display
