radar mute wire
hi every one, i just bought a escort 9500ci radar laser detector.
it comes with a radio mute cable, wich is supposed to mute radio during a alert. in the installation directions it says refer to factory audio sys. manual for proper connection.
it is only a single wire. anyone have any ideas where this wire goes as our radios dont have mute as far as i know.. my tl does have nav.
thanks for any input.

Regardless of Nav or not your radio has an HFL mute on the widest connector input for the radio- this is identified as connector C and has 26 pins- it should be the connector closest to the passenger side. Pin #20 should be a blue/red wire that corresponds to HFL Mute and should do the trick. I think you will need to pull the radio to get to that connector.
I have my Bel Sti mounted high near the rear view mirror and have no problems hearing it alarm, so I wouldn't bother with this feature personally- I just crank the unit and the unit self-mutes quickly anyway. Good luck! There are howto's on this site for removing the radio that should be helpful

I asked this same question a while back for my Type-S, and when I pulled the connector for the NAV it did not seem to match up to the pin layout/wire color that was given to me, so I just gave up. This was for my laser jammers not detectors, but I discovered even when blasting music those things will scare the piss out of you every time, so I didn't worry about it.
I was looking at the wiring harnesses under the passenger foot well though, their may have been something else behind the radio I could've used but my '04 TL FSM didn't seem to have it.
