I'm still not hard wired.

I use it for long drives, and occasional back/forth drives to work.

I've contemplated the Beltronics version of the escort x50, and this.

Currently i'm still satisified with the purchase and would probably also recommend it to others as well.

I roll with the V995 and i've had it since last december, probably the one of the two best things i've ever bought for my car (the second being my new tires) but i shot a video of it and after doing the physics and taking the number of seconds from the video and my avg speed, it picked up a KA band 1 mile away on hilly roads, and when i say hilly you cannot see at all whats on the other side of the hill till you cross it
my car was headed in this direction |^|
the police was shooting 1 mile away in this direction |<|
he finally caught some one and pulled into a side road, this is when my radar signal faded to two-three bars and his radar was then facing this direction |>|
i was very happy

only down side to these is that laser is nearly undetectable yesterday i [think] i got shot with laser but my V995 gave me no alert, the car behind me got shot and then it gave me alert, the laser detection works on the principle of scattered laser rays

but laser isn't a big problem out in my city, and i'm considering a laser jammer, if anyone has any info on these it would be great

For a detector, this is the way to go: https://acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=185602

There are better laser shifters out there, but they are flawed. Usually customer service is questionable, the interface is some shitty metal toggle switch that looks like it belongs in an airplane cockpit, and most of them leak or go bad after a year or two. Plus it is virtually impossible to determine if any of the test results available online are remotely true.

The V1 is a giant VCR-like thing that gives a billion false alerts. I assume that with all the false alerts, the V1 will keep you from ever exceeding the speed limit. Seriously.

Also, Escort offers firmware updates, too--so that is not a new benefit from the V1. I know you can supposedly send it back for an update (the V1) but I am extremely skeptical that they actually do anything with that and they charge through the nose. At least, that is what I was able to surmise from many searches. But if you must invest in V1, check out Ebay. They are dirt cheap on there.

i think i will get the stidriver, discount comes to $370. not bad i guess. anyway, thanks for all the help, ill let you guys know how it performs
Good Choice!

After reading the reviews a year ago, I bought the Sti as well and it's a good detector. No tickets and plenty of advanced warning. I get so much warning at times that this detector makes me think it's falsing but sure enough I see a cop ahead of me. I highly recommend the Invisicord as well- it works well. I mounted mine high in the tint strip of the window (glued the metal bracket to windshield) and have the Invisicord for power. The detector is so close to me that the remote switch Bel/Escort has is unnecessary since the mute button is so easy to push anyway.
You can see pictures here: http://s239.photobucket.com/albums/ff222/LaCostaRacer/

Good luck- I think you'll like the Sti

V1? False Alerts? Every time my Ka goes off, in a 1/2 mlie I see a highway patrol...

My V1 paid for it self dozens of times. Definitely works in NYC. And how can you live without the arrows? I've been a happy customer for over 4 years.

I been rolling with the STI 5river for the last year and a half. Bought it when I was out in VA where radar detectors are illegal (even though they shoot laser up in NOVA). So far I have had no issues but three times it would keep saying KA at either 7 or 8M just unplugged and plugged back in, was working again. Keep in mind, that it started going off as soon as it booted up

The warnings at 8 miles were probably valid.

The STI is an amazing detector. The review at: http://www.radartest.com/article.asp?articleID=100542 shows that it has a 11 mile range that beats the V1 by 4 miles. This is a significant advantage on open roads, but won't matter for the city folks.

I have learned to always head the warning my STI gives me now because it is almost always correct- it might take 5 or more minutes to find the cop. The laser works pretty well too. I have had the detector for 2 years with no tickets (knock on wood)
