Questions about the navigation unit (slow?)

I have a 2004 TL with the Navigation and it's probally one of the best choices I've made. It has saved my ass tons of times and I don't think I'd ever get another car without a navigation unit.

My only gripe is (well its a pretty big one) that sometimes the unit does not work instantly 100% of the time. After clicking the 'ok' for the dummy warnning I get to the map screen. When i click menu i see the choices, ie: previous address, address, home, etc. Now sometimes when I click on the Address button, the button will stay depressed but it won't DO anything?! It's as if the thing semi locks up, i'll have to usually click back on the Audio button then click the Map button to get it to unlock itself. A cancel won't do anything and if I just 'wait' it still won't work. I've actually sat there for 10 mins before to wait for it to load, thinking it might just be that the disc wasn't cached or something. This happens randomly, and I've tried 'rebooting' but restarting the car and it doesn't help all the time.

Can anyone explain to me what the problem is or if anyone even has the same issue as I do?

There will sometimes be a pause after pressing the "OK" button on the legal screen if the OS hasn't completely loaded yet.

I have never seen the issue with "Address" button.

I've seen various buttons within the nav screens have a delay like you mentioned. The system as a whole is kind of slow. There are times when I'll start the car and drive for a few blocks before the OK button appears on the nag screen. But I've noticed the delay occur, typically when doing some kind of address input.

But it is a computer, afterall, and sometimes it takes a little while to process various information. I imagine the delay is longer if the car is moving... for obvious reasons.

I've seen delays when I ask it to give me a list of places; for example, last night I wanted it to find the nearest shoe store and it took a while, but I assumed that it was just sorting through to calculate the distances.

Sometimes when I give it a voice command it seems like there is a long pause too.

Otherwise never experienced much trouble.

Part of reason the system is slow is because it uses DVD. I think Mercedez S class uses hard drive for that reason.

There's not much we can do about it. Still it's big improvement over 2G navigation. I think they said 3x RISC processing power over previous gen.

If you go try one of those handheld Navigation units, you will see overall speed is slowr than ours(because of slower processor) but those things doesn't have delay like ours(because it's all RAM and ROM it uses to store info)
