Question for those who have installed aftermarket radio....

I am looking into buying an alpine IV-W505 head unit for my 05 non nav tl. I found a good deal on crutchfield but when I was going to buy it a message came up saying that the harness,(which they Supply),
The harness does not supply connections for the front speakers, so you will need to run new speaker wires to your front speakers.
The harness does not supply connections for the rear speakers, so you will need to run new speaker wires to your rear speakers.
My question is, is this true for all harnesses for the 05 tl or just the one that crutchfield provides. Thanks in advance.

I am looking at hareness #120701721 on crutchfield and it showS speaker connections. I think what they mean you will need to bypass the stock amp signal path and wire directly from the harness to the speakers. Standard Acura wiring sends the signal from the OEM HU to the stock amp and onto the speakers. You don't want to do this in this case with an aftermarket HU. You will want to go directly to the speakers. BTW, the stock speakers are not standard aftermarket 4 ohm, they are 2 ohm. This may cause problems. You will also loose you center speaker

The harness should be ok. You'll still have problems with the stock 2 ohm speakers

after market deck can't run 2ohm speakers. If you buy a high end 4 channel amp you will be fine. but if your putting all this work in you should change the speaker. they will sound much better than oem.
Im doing a clarion 585usb 7" dvd deck with phoenix gold amps, focal speakers and some other toys in mine
Im about 2-3 month out form having it done

kg1961 has it right. Besides, adding a decent set of speakers are pretty easy and the benefits are great

I custom made my own. Nobody makes a dash kit for our cars. Too complicated. Several attempts to make one by some vendors but nothing yet.

Nice job with the Dash Kit KoP. I have that exact head unit and want to install it in my '05 TL. How did you make the side covers?

Not to high jack this thread

I had 2 extra trim pieces. I cut a 2 inch long section just above the each of the cut-outs, trimmed and sanded the cut edges. They seemed to snap in place. I put a dab of super glue to hold them in place. It took me a lot of time and patience to get it right since I only had one extra set.

Very nice work KOP, did you use the stock bracket to mount your radio, or did you come up with a better way to keep the radio from moving around? Also what material did you use for your trim.

RjG2,
The stock brackets will work with the new HU. The plastic piece around the HU is a modified 2004-06 Pontiac GTO dash kit, metra #95-3528.

tlemmon,
Yes, that is a 8" widescreen touchscreen for a CarPC. The Pioneer HU has a Aux in for the CarPC sound. In addition the HU has full ipod control and Bluetooth.

Did you retro-fit a stock NAV screen, or add your own? I am curious as I would like to do something similar to my 06 w/nav. Did you do a DIY writeup here or ?

This TL was originally a non navi. It made it eaiser to convert. There are plenty of write-ups, more detailed than mine, floating around here.

Thanks again for the info everyone. I am going to use the gto dash kit, it looks perfect, much props for coming up with that, I would have never thought of using a kit for a gm car in a million years. I am slowly getting every thing I need for my install. Once its done I will post pics.
