So.....the answer is 99.
The DVD-Audio specification sets the limit of 99 songs per group. The specification also allows up to 9 groups per DVD-Audio, but Discwelder Bronze and Steel have a limitation of only 1 group. You have to get the very expensive Discwelder Chrome to get multiple groups.

I've only rarely run into the 99 song limit. The TL has pretty slow/inconvenient group switching anyway (hold repeat/scan buttons down simultaneously for 3 seconds to change groups, it only navigates up, and when it reaches the end of the group it's playing it goes to the next disc rather than the next group on the current disc, can't shuffle among groups) so that's not a particularly critical feature to me.

Sorry to change the subject but does anybody know if you can get a back up camera for the 04 TL with Navi, I wanted to get one and splice the wires to hook up an auxilary input.

I'm very interested in the Discwelder/DVD idea, but I play and catalog most of my music through Apple iTunes. Can Discwelder convert the Apple AAC format into WAV files to play in the TL?

I don't believe anything can convert AAC to WAV except for iTunes (and then it is accomplished by burning the iTunes files to a CD and then ripping them back to WAV). At least that's how I have done it.

get an iPod - problem solved

you can always get an iPod. look at it like this

99 songs per DVD vs around 10K songs @ 192kbps (40GB for $400)

say each DVD disc is a dollar that's 100 (<-- for dividing purposes) songs per dollar (disc not reusable)
vs
25 songs per dollar (playlist can be updated infinite times)

time it takes to:
- gather the 99 songs, convert them, burn the dvd
vs
- create a playlist and import the playlist to the iPod

you can listen to your DVD in the car but what about when you don't have a dvd player handy that will recognize the disc
vs
get some better headphones to replace the crappy ones that come w/ the iPod and you have your songs w/ you

i've tried to make my own DVD-A and with all the hassle i just bought an iPod. it just seems that many are doing too much work while there is another alternative.

i am curious if the programs will convert the 2 channel into 6 channel?

just my

Seperate question. When I bought my TL there was an 8 week wait for the color I wanted with the 6mt and Navi. They had one on the lot without the Navi, but it had the aspec package so I bought it. I'm in sales and I'm kicking myself for not getting the Navigation. What's the best aftermarket Navi out there?

I understand. I already own an iPod Mini, which is the main reason I'm hooked on iTunes. This thread got me excited about having a 99-song rock favorites disk and a 99-song jazz favorites disk perpetually cued up in my TL, no matter where I may leave my iPod. I'm not very enthused about the iPod hard wire proposals I've been reading about, so burning DVDs seems like a good way to enjoy a lot of my music without wiring the stereo or wearing headphones.

Just made my own DVD-A using WaveLab and I found it quite easy. I actually have a live show in 24-bit format so I used the WAV files from that to create the Audio Montage file. After that, converted the Montage into burnable format in WaveLab and went right to disc with it. I am using a TDK burner with TDK discs. The TDK DVD+R's don't work in my TL, but the DVD-R's work fine.

Audio DVD Creator

I found a program called Audio DVD creator, which essentially creates a video DVD that is stripped of its video. Does anyone know if DVDs produced in this way will play in the TL system? I'm about to give this a shot tomorrow, but I don't really expect it to work. If anyone has tried this before let me know.

It will not work. The TL does not play DVD-Video, even if there's no video content.

So.....the answer is 99.
Close, the answer is 99 songs per group, 9 groups per disc.

when creating a DVD-A disc, what is the file structure format? When it creates mine I get the Video_TS and Audio_TS (all the information in is the Audio_TS). I know this the format for standard DVDs, but is this right for DVD-A?? I tried to play the DVD-A I created in PowerDVD 6 Deluxe (which supports DVD-A Discs) and it didnt work... am I missing something?

Yes, that is the correct format. I can't remember if my DVD-A discs worked in PowerDVD, but I believe they read in WinDVD 5.

You have to get an add-on to WinDVD to enable it to play DVD-Audio.
