Proposed Audio System ... Suggestions Wanted

Hey Guys ...

One of my next mods is a upgrade to the stock stereo ... I dont want something with a billion watts or anything ... just something clean and clear ...

My current idea ... I am on a budget ... so every $ counts ...

  1. Option 1:
    JL Audio 450/4 AMP ...
JL Audio XR Components in Front Doors ...
JL Audio TR Coax for Rears ...
    JL Audio 10W3v2 Sub ...

I plan to run the 450/4 in a 75W to each front door and 300W to the Sub ...

Just run the TR Coax rears off of the factory amp w/ the center channel (which I will turn off ... so it is just for Bluetooth and Nav).

From all of the reasearch I have done ... rear speakers are useless ...

  2. Option 2 ... swap out the 450/4 ... get a JL 500/5 ... and amp the rear with 25Watts ... and the Sub with 250W ...

Sugguestions wanted on Option 1 vs. Option 2 ...

Great choice on the amps and sub. 1 or 2 will be good. You're right about the rears, they're just for fill. Have you thought about XR coaxs for the front? I understand it will give you better imaging than comps. Either ones will be a billion times better than stock. Good luck. Post some comments after the install. I would like to read your impression between the OEM sound and the upgraded sound.

I'm just wondering if having the rears being amplified is a good idea for the rear passengers. I often carry rear passengers... AAP, you didn't mention the use of a Cleansweep-type device in your setup. Still planning on doing that?

I plan to use the JL Cleansweep ... I plan to get the system in mid-Jan ... UNLESS ... a better solution is released at CES. As far as the rears ... that is the true question in this poll ...

I'd use DLS UP6 in front and ace the rears, or use midwoofers only.

nice setup, Im thinking about doing something similar cept that I'd probably use the whole XR series and go with bigger, more powerful sub like the 12W7.

Just a penny of my thought, Im also considering of installing full Rockford Fosgate audio on my car. The setup would be:

RF T162S Component Speakers for front panels, RF T162C 2-way Speakers for rear, powered by a RF T15004 4 channels amplifier

2x RF T112D2 powered by a RF 20001 mono amplifier

These whole setup will cost me about $2000, probably less, before the installation. I believe this is a decent option since JL Audio are a little overpriced and overrated. The only reason I'd go for JL is that the fact their brand is more "Reputable" in autoshows than RF.

If you think JL is overpriced you have never bought or owned it, if you think JL is overrated you have definetely never owned it. If you are considering Fosgate and then saying that JL is overated and overpriced, it sounds like a salesman got a hold of you and you haven't listened to any of their equipment.

lol... I own JL w6v2s and Im liking it... and to make it clear:
first, I was referring to the w7 when I say JL is overpriced and overrated. This sub is only good for autoshow and not for daily driving purposes. A JL distributor was telling me this. Pardon me if I didnt mention it clearly on my previous post.
second it would be nice to build an autoshow audio system using only single brand, if you get what I mean. That way it looks neater. A whole JL audio setup with a pair of w7s would bust my wallet clean.
also, rockford is a good system. Ive listened to it first hand and I doubt it is second to JL in term of sound quality. and just for your info, some of JL stuffs are made in china nowadays.
anyway everyone is entitled to have different opinions, so what I mentioned in my previous post was merely an opinion

I apologize, I wouldn't own the W7s either......I competed for Fosgate during the 97-99 USAC seasons back when they had the ugly head units.....It is definetly better to use all one brand if you are going to compete. They did not like the fact that I had MB Quarts in my vehicle though.

I just swapped my Alpine 5 ch for the 500/5, the sound change is amazing! Instead of sounding like I was listening to the left rear speaker, I hear the fronts much better now. I think this amp is the perfect one for our cars. I have the JL 10w1 and the sound quality on it is excellent now that it has some decent power.

I vote setup 2 now.
