Project: Front OEM cam or baby cam??

So for the past couple months i have been working on adding a 2nd oem camera to my navi system and studying the schematics for my 07-08 nav system so i could wire this to toggle between the 2 cams. My original plan was to put an OEM cam on the front of the car under the "A" in the grille so i could see when im pulling up to a parking spot or just wanting to park really close for whatever reason. Also for fun. Anyhow i had my first child 1 month ago and since we have had him in the car WE cannot see him since we have a rear facing car seat. Well tried the mirror and the angle of it just wouldnt allow it to work to my liking. So my plans for the front cam changed to mounting it inside the car as my very own baby cam if you will. I started trying to think where would be a good place to mount it? Ah, just under the rear 3rd brake light cover.. so that is where i mounted it after i modified the OEM cam mount.

So i alrdy had my reverse on/off switch hooked up to flip my back up cam on anytime i wanted so that saved some time. Then i mounted my DPDT switch next to the reverse switch and hooked up my sheilded cable that i ran from under the dash thru center console under the seat and back to the DVD cam harness. I also ran my shielded "baby" cam wiring from roof down and back to the DVD cam harness where i made all necessary connections. I solder and heat shrink all wires!

Well here is my discovery i made... EVERYONE should love this. So i had a spare RCA cable lying around.. cut off an end with 6" or so of wire and stripped it, connected the 2 wires from the rca connector to the appropriate wires of the OEM harness and plugged it back in. Connected my home video camera to the rca connector i just installed.

At this point all my wiring is ran and all my connections are made but car is still apart just in case something doesnt work.

So i go turn on the ignition and flip on my reverse switch and DPDT switch to the regular back up cam and it works.. flip the DPDT to the baby cam and it works... now i flip DPDT to the center pos and to my damn surprise everything that the video cam sees is showing up on my navi screen! So i immediately run to get my portable dvd player and hook it all up and WOULD U believe it... i am now watching dvd movies on my navi screen !!

Some iphone pics...

Cool shit!
I'm interested as well. I have an 06 which didnt have the factory Back up cam. which would mean that there isnt a harness that i could simply splice an RCA into.

No joke?? I, like most I guess, thought you needed and aftermarket item to add video. Good job figuring it out haha.

Thanks Buck..

Here is a pic from yesterday. If only i could zoom in a bit! Otherwise it does the job. I also cant figure out why the black leather shows up black but the black fabric items show up a dif color? This is an OEM acura camera from a 2010 TL.

Looks good, but yeah I see what you mean about the zoom level.

I would guess the color difference is coming from the way the different materials absorb/reflect light. Not sure really, but it's possible.

I wish this had been posted before I bought my NavTool. OP, more details on where you tapped the RCA plug, please?

Nice job!~ I posted a thread on this awhile back but really didn't get any feedback on it. Glad to see someone with a 3G TL finally did it....

cool! Im working on installing 3 more cameras in addition to my reverse camera with my DOMs unit. Im pretty sure your mod will only work with 07/08 cause there is already a system in place to handle the conversion from composite to RGB that the navi screen uses. Not sure though.
