Problems trying to assign a new phone with same name

Hi,

I'm having trouble trying to assign the same name to my new phone. Basically, I'm upgrading from a Treo 650 to a Treo 700. I named my old phone "Treo 650". I deleted it from the paired phoneson on the TL. I then paired a new phone and name it "Treo 700." Now its telling me that the names are too similar and it won't let me. I've changed many phones and it seems that all my old phones are still stored in the memory but they are just not paired. How can I get rid of those phones? Is this a bug?

I had the same problem when upgrading to my Cingular 8525. Just do the whole process again & make sure neither phone is close to the car to be picked by bluetooth. It should give you a list of paired phones & delete the old 1. Just make sure not to delete the wrong option or you'll end up deleting your whole phonebook on the Tl too.

I just tried what you recommended. It still tells me that the names are too similar. The old phone is no longer paired but when i try to add the new phone w/ a similar name, it won't let me

A few options to try:

1) Unpair and unlink the Treo 650 from the TL so that the TL knows nothing about it. There should be instructions in the manual on how to unlink/clear phones from the system.

2) Name the new phone something else that is not similar to the old name: "My new phone," "the 700," etc.

Problem solved. Sounds kinda dumb but I had to delete the phone. Turn off the engine. Waited 5 minutes. Came back and added the phone under the same name and for whatever reason, it worked. I guess you can't delete and pair at the same time.
