Problem with iPod classic 160gig & Usaspec adapter

I have the USAspec pa11-hon2y that I just installed a couple weeks ago. (install was abreeze thanks to the great instructions from the site) It worked perfectly with my iPod video (60 gig). I bought a new iPod classic 160gig today as I ran out of room on the old 60 gig.

When I plug in the 160 in the car, the display stays on a screen that says it is running on an external connection. it doesn't allow me to control it from the iPod like it used to, just from the car controls. (with my 60 gig, I could control it from the wheel / stereo controls, and the face of the iPod at the same time) This is the latest version of the pa11-hon2y that has the new "hybrid" mode that gives you the best of both direct & playlist modes.

Anyone else using / tried using one of the iPod classiscs on theirs yet?

I believe it is the new ipod that is the problem. The new ones won't work 100% with the DICE unit either. It's something Apple did to the new ones that someone still needs to crack.

Here you go. This is from nick@DICE in another thread concerning the new ipods and the DICE unit. I would think it would effect the USAspec also.

Good news is that the kit works fine with the iPod. Text display, headunit control, steering wheel control, all work great. Bad news is that the iPod is remaining locked when you plug it in. You can reset it and gain control from the iPod but lose control from the car however. I don't know if there's going to be a way to unlock the newest generation of iPod's right now.

I'd take it back and buy a used 80gb if you need to the extra space. As of now, the new ipods don't function with alot of items.

Appreciate the responses

Appreciate the info all.

FYI - just got a response back from support@usaspec.com (quick response, took them less than 24 hours to get back to me on a weekend:-)

They confirmed that the new hybrid mode does not work with the classic. just like Nick mentioned about the dice units, the ASPEC unit works fine will the classisc in direct or playlist modes.

I just returned the classic & took my ipod video back from my brother. I LOVE the hybrid mode on the updated ASPEC units. guess I will just have to put a 160 or 200 GIG drive in my existing ipod.

Thanks all.
