Problem installing Backup Camera with NavAndTv2Go Unit

Hi guys,

Installed backup camera, everything went great (thanks to the support on this forum). If I use video 1 input on the conversion box (with the switch) it works fine when i toggle over to cut off the navi. I see the reverse image on the navi.

However, i'm trying to get Video 2 (the auto-cutoff) to work. I've wired the blue and white wire sticking out of the box (the 12v toggle) ... the blue going to the green of the reverse light and the white goign to ground (tried both my common ground and going directly to reverse light ground). Unfortunately, neither of these ways is toggling the light. I have measured the voltage across the ground and the reverse light, it's about 11v, does that make a difference? I think that would be within spec for the toggle.

Any other ideas for me to try?

Thanks

What about the camera? Is it getting powered with a constant 12 V source or did you tap it into the backup light as well?

Dumb question, but I have to ask. Did you place the car in reverse?

yeah, the camera on the backup light circuit as well.

it works fine when i put in Reverse with video 1 with the switch, but not video 2 with the 12v toggle.

I can't remember for sure but I think there were a couple of extra wires besides the ones that go to the reverse light and your toggle switch. I think the extra wires had to get either connect to each other or grounded out. Sorry I can't remember for sure.

Any wire that you have to ground should be grounded to the body of the vehicle and not at the negative wire of the reverse bulb.

The way it was explained to me is this....

The camera goes to Vid1 and will override everything else WITHOUT the toggle switch.... then, Vid2 was for the DVD and it used the switch to go from DVD to NAV....

That was my understanding.... but I was told to do this, the camera must be in Vid1..

Am I wrong on this? I plan to do this install this weekend....

I just took a look at the instructions page in my garage and is says that vidio1 is DVD player and Video2 is the backup camera. It says that the 12V blue input wire controls video2.(Camera) The toggle switch toggles between video1(dvd) and your NAVI/radio display.
Hope I read it correctly.

zeezz, have you tried contacting Dominic at TVandNav2Go? I am sure he has ways to test if your unit is defective.

zeezz,
You basically have to ground the ligth green and the two white wires from the Tv2go module and connect the blue to the reverse light 12V (green wire).

When you go back in the truck where you installed the Tv2go module to check things out, I would also install a delay (Pop Eliminator - from Navone Engineering) inline with the blue wire and the reverse light, so you don't have the flicker when you shift from park to drive (useless you have a Manual and wouldn't need it).

zeez, please keep us updated on what you find. I am doing my install this Friday and it would be nice to know whether or not you got yours working. Good luck with it! Hopefully we will hear some good news from you soon.

Started my install today. I ran through several tests to make sure my unit was okay.

Dom, test video input, and backup camera seems to work as they should. Connected all devices, placed car in ACC mode. Navigation works. Clicked the switch, video input 1 works. Placed car in reverse, backup camera works. Back to park, video switched back to video input 1. Clicked the switch, back to navigation. Placed in reverse, see video 1. Back to park, navigation is back.

Now I need to finish mounting that camera. The rotary tool (Dremel) is so cool!
