Possible SF Bay Area group buy on New version of USA Spec?

Guys,

I just talked to a local (Santa Clara) dealer about the new(fixed) version of the USASpec and he said he would be willing to do $119 if I could get 4 people in on this.

Is anyone interested?

Thanks

I'll let this run for a while and see how it goes. We usually like to coordinate group buys, but for this small a quantity the seller wouldn't want to sign on so we'll just try and help you out and see what happens.

Do any of our authorized vendors carry this? Is their price close?

Sorry, wasn't trying to circumvent the forum rules at all. Just stumbled across this when I was looking for a local source of the USA Spec.

FYI, I just placed the order for mine at $119 and the guy Alex is really cool so no worries. He let me go ahead and order for $119 on good faith that I'd at least try and get a few more buyers.

I thought some people would be interested but maybe the between people who already have them, and people who are in the bay area (don't know if it would make much sense to do nationwide group buy for savings of about $20), the market is too limited.

These kind of threads usually don't get too far. I just wanted to post so you, and others, would know it was ok to see if you could get some people together, but it might be hard to do.

Thanks, we'll see what happens. Just trying to help out the fellow AZ'ers since I've gotten so much help here.

Do as search on here and you'll find lots of information. It has been generally accepted by AZ'ers as currently the best solution for ipod integration into our TL. It also provides a second aux audio input which is of huge benifit to those of us who are doing dvd/media player installs and need a way to get that audio into the stock audio system as well.

OK, well let me know. In order to hook up your iPod you only need the USA Spec unit and a Y adapter if you want to keep XM. If enough people are interested I can talk to the guy about the Y adapter ( I bought mine online from enfigcarstereo). Of course if you want to add video there are a few other things you need (video source, Dom's Nav2go)

I'd be interested at that price, but I am not in the bay area. However, because it seems you're able to get them relatively easy, I'd have no problem with paying shipping charges. I don't have the time to perform my own due diligence and find a reputable dealer. Go ahead and shoot me an email at jonathanmccarty@gmail.com
Thanks!

There are 2 different modes of operation.

In 1, disc 1-5 on the head unit call specific ipod playlists and disc6 selects the aux input.

In the second mode disc 5 is the ipod and disc 6 is the aux-in.

And to update this thread, this new adapter comes with a builtin y adapter so no need to order the extra part and spend the extra $25.

For anyone seriously interested please PM me.

If you are out of the area and need shipping, we can work it out in PM.

As soon as we have 3 more people confirmed with orders (either directly to Dealerworks or through PP to me) I can place the order with Dealerworks. My order was filled in 2 days (ordered monday, got it today-wednesday)

Thanks

I am assuming he can but based on his comments he hasn't done it, at least not with those specific components.

Since we seem to have quite a few people interested I will call him tomorrow and see how we should handle it, either have locals place their orders directly with him, mentioning me and AZ or if he wants me to coordinate somehow.

I did not get a chance to talk to Alex yesterday due to work but I will today. I am still not sure how all this will work out since 75% of the people interested are out of the area. I will report back when I talk to Alex.

Thanks!

For local peeps I am sure Alex would be willing to do the install (even though IMO it is pretty simple and can be done yourself) but that is something you will have to negotiate with him directly once I get the buy details worked out.

Thanks

Yes, if you already have a PA11-HON2 they can update the firmware to the PA11-HON2Y and it will work fine. However if you are buying new, buying the old version will require getting the Y cable also whereas the PA11-HON2Y won't.

Sorry guys I was offline most of the weekend. I did call Alex again only to find out they are closed on the weekends. I will do my best to get an answer tomorrow. If not, I will just post the Name/number and let everyone contact him directly and see about shipping.

Sorry for the delays.

The PA11-HON2Y is not available yet?? Should I just wait for it or get the PA11-HON2 and the Y-Cable?

It is not available through normal channels yet. AFAIK I am the only one who has one and I purchased it through this dealer who placed the order and had it in 2 days.

I would highly recommend waiting for this unit (either through me or online). You will save yourself the money for a Y cable and the trouble of the previous unit incompatibilities or having to send the old unit in for an upgrade.

Ok guys here is the DL.

Alex is ready to take orders and is going to work with everyone individually to arrange shipping.

He has requested you email him with you request and the shipping information but you may also be able to touch base with him via phone. You will have to figure out how to get him you CC info to place the order.

Here is the information

Dealer Works
(408) 987-9900
contact@dealerworks.com
Send with ATTN: Alex in subject.

Make sure to mention me Brian from AZ in the email.
Again the deal is $119+taxes & shipping for the USASpec PA11-HON2Y

Hope this works out for everyone.

Thanks

Sorry it didn't work out for you.

My unit was $119+taxes (8.25% around here) so it came out to almost exactly $130. I guess it depends on what type of shipping you want to pay for (don't know what he offers). Remember originally this was only intended for Bay Area people who can realize the full discount.

If you try and buy the old unit at Crutchfield you will pay $139+$25 for the y cable+taxes=$177 but get free shipping and still have to send the unit in for an upgrade.

I guess you can just wait until it comes out at crutchfield and pay $139+taxes unless they raise the price on the new version(very possible since it now includes something they can no longer charge for)

However getting the new unit now for $5-20 less than it will be when it hits Crutchfield(whenever that is) seems like a deal to me.

I put my order in today, $119 (no tax cause im in IN) plus $15 for shipping plus the added benefit of not having to track this thing down myself. Alex seems very organized, I look forward to having this in hand.

This may be an old question, or maybe since the release of the new unit its again relevant, but does anyone have some install pics and instructions put up?

Glad this worked out for you. Do a search on here for a thread called alternative to the musiclink. It is usually on the first page. The only part that you really need to know is how to disconnect the cable fromt he back of the head unit, and how to take apart the center console if you plan on locating the unit in there.
