Possible Change of Plans...

Hey guys, so I'm starting to debate a change of plans for my setup. I love where I'm at but there's something that I need to do...and that's buy an engagement ring soon .

My current setup is in my sig but I'm thinking about trying the ID cx62 x-overs as they have quite a few different configurations. I just don't listen to music, mainly bass just insanely loud like I used to. As long as it's accurate and reproduces very nicely in the cabin, I'm fine. So here's my plan...

Sell 1 or both of my 12w6's, Sundown 100.4 and PDX1.1000. I'll likely be selling the 360.2 unless I can't find an amp that will accept our stupid balanced signal for a decent price. I've got my eye on the PPI p900.4 as it'll give 450 @ 4ohms (bridged) and 225x2 to my components on passive x-overs. I dont "need" to sell all this, but I think it'd help to cushion the blow lol. I'll go nuts with my next car or later on with this car and get some real high quality stuff (dyn's, focal's, diy, etc).

If I sell that stuff, I should free up about $800 AFTER buying the PPI p900.4...along with trunk space again. That's if I sold only 1 sub and kept 1 in a 1.5sealed box. Sooo...with that being said, does anyone know if the PPI accepts balanced?? I know I could go the balanced line-driver route like the Rockford BLD, but it's priced at like $80-100. I know the JL HD and Slash amp's accept balanced, but they're overly expensive for right now.

Thanks for the help guys!

Also saving for a ring here... It's the only reason I haven't gotten my Esotar tweeters yet.

With whatever you decide to do, I would throw one of the 12W6s in a ported box. You will get at least the same output if not more than you have now.

You know I have to suggest a refubished 900/5. 150x2 and 500x1 which is a bit underrated. The sub channel usually makes 570+w. 150w is a lot on the fronts.

That's what I've been trying to find out on the PPI as well if it accepts the balaced inputs because I'd love to switch my Kappa 5 out for it. I asked on DIYmobileaudio and I never got any response if it did or not. Lmk if you discover anything on the acceptance of the balanced input, if not I might be interested in some of your stuff depending on price. And good luck to you both I had considered an engagement ring a couple of months ago, but I decided nows not the best time lol, and at least I have the money being saving to buy a house instead so I figured it was a good trade off.

Aren't the 900/5's like $500+? That's the only thing that turns me away is that I wouldn't be making up any money with that purchase. Maybe a little I guess. Also, a ported box would likely take up just as much space as the sealed box does now and I'm not sure how I feel about all the space it takes up. Not like I use my trunk a ton...but still. I dunno...I'm always changing things so who knows lol

Yeah I'm definitely trying to find out. If not on DIYMA then from PPI or a retailer. If I find anything out or sell my stuff, I'll post it up here also and let ya know

Keep your sundown. Drop the 360, get a BLD. Drop the PDX and get a 500w mono amp (at 2 ohms). Get a on-sale uncald4 corner box (WORTH IT!!!) and corner load up one of those W6.

Front preamp signal -> BLD -> Sundown -> ID Comps
Rear preamp signal -> Amp -> W6

That stuff should sound pretty good and be loud enough to do hearing damage. ...and simple.

12w6's and PDX are gone. Got a pretty good sale for local so I let em go. I just don't listen to the w6's at an extremely loud level so why have $500 worth of subs/box in there when $150-200 can get me the loudness I need. I'm sure SQ of some of these DIY subs can get close the w6. Got my eye on the Dayton HO 12", SSA Icon, FI Q, IDq (there's a 10" for sale locally for $125 w/ sealed .8cuft box..not sure if its the v2 though...also not sure if the 10" will be enough volume to mesh without sounding strained).

Likely sell the 100.4 and pick up a 5-channel for simplicity. I'll still run the 360 and run active, just didn't need that much gear and wanted to try something else.

The ID 5800 likely has the best build quality & it's only $375 ($75 more than most). The MB Quart ONX doesn't look bad and they had power (the Q line is the one that messed up on me), but I'm running caps on the tweeters now so I should be protected from that at least. The Hifonics Zeus 60.4+1K isn't on there, but it's got a huge sub channel at 1K rms. Not sure of build quality, longevity and SQ of the amp. I know most think there's this HUGE difference in SQ from amp to amp, but I hear some people that have tried all kinds of amps that say they can't hear a large difference....at least not enough to justify cost to a certain degree. Any thoughts?

Gotta figure out what sub I want to run also. Likely small sealed so I can just pop it in whatever vehicle I decide to get later...as I don't want to keep the TL for more than another year or so.

Keep the Sundown and get a 1K amp at 2 ohms. 1000w at 2 ohms is not expensive.

Selling what you have to then want it later would be the dumbest move ever.

Keep what you have. You got the sundown and w6's for a steal... Why get rid of them?

Agreed. If I HAD to downsize I would have sold one of the W6s and kept the other. This is coming from someone who sold his 12W6s, tried a bunch of popular forum subs and completely regretted the decision.

I was thinking about this one myself

A single 15 with 3" excursion should be enough for just about anyone. A pair should surpass the 140db mark.

Yeah I might try the Dcon b/c it's so cheap. Don't they like ported though? I would have kept the Sundown, but I made almost $100 on the sale alone. Made $250 on the w6's. Made $75 on the PDX. Plus I'm only spending half of what I sold everything for! I've come to realize that the sub stage isn't crazy important to me. I don't have the time or skill to keep dialing in EQ, etc so I just want to do something simple and pocket the money.

Dcons love ported.

15" ported dcon would be nice.

This for your frontstage would work

+ a cheapo 300w for the dcon

That power is just a few watts less than some of the nicer 5 channels and some even have 4-500 on the sub channel. I'm eying these JBL P1224's right now b/c they're $120 and look damn close to the JBL GTI mkII

Dcon ported would put me with hardly any trunk space again though correct?? I just wanted something that wouldn't take up much room and would put money in my pockets. If I had it my way, I would spend $200 on a sub and concentrated the rest on my front stage. BUT...I don't want to tacking that again. At least not until I have a garage
