Called up a battery place asking for difference between red & yellow and what model to get, they said the yellow provides a constant voltage (i.e. no fluctuating current) and makes sound systems sound better. They said the D35 yellow top fits, which is what I got.

The R model is the same battery but with the terminal positions reversed (and hence why some need to flip the battery around to make them fit)

to be honest.....optima sucks mandingos dick.....i had it and got rid of it....you want something phenomenal??? go with a kinetic battery or go with a battery called purple haze its a deep cycle battery......i have both in my car because of my system.... the car runs perfect with the system in it without the kinetic.... no drains, nothing....even the alternators current keeps up with the charging......i threw the kinetic in there mainly for looks.

lee im sorry to say the place u called is incorrect....the alternator in the car is what gives u unstable current....so regardless of battery its still there.... the battery is there to actually stablize the current from the alternator.......ANY battery does that....actually the battery is there while the car is on only to hold a charge for extra accessories being run while a drain on the system is occuring.

red usually equals more cold cranking amps.. and less output for stereos etc.. but is still great over oem.. i have yellow because i live in southern california and i have 2 12's i need to power

To the OP.....Optima Yellow is a deep-cycle battery. It will recover charge quicker if you have a large draw...ie, amps, winches etc.

Optima Red is a standard that has more initial CCA, but recovers slower.

Both voltage/amperage recoveries are totally based on your alternators output and neither will guarantee a "constant" voltage better than the other. They're not bad batteries but like the other posters stated, there are far better alternatives(Kinetic or Odyssey). Regardless, Optimas are definitely better than the POS OEM battery. I've had a red and yellow in my Toyota FJ40 for 10 years and they're still going strong

the large draw doenst mean it will recover quicker....you can draw a lot more... yes but recovery wont occur any faster.... deep cycle is really just a standard battery with thicker metal blades on the inside and ultimately holding a charge better than a standard sized battery.

I stand corrected Tripnbeats...that is correct. I use the deep cycle for my winch alone, due to the large draw it needs under load. I also run dual high output alternators to recover faster.

Deep cycles are just what the name implies. They are made to be deep discharged repetedly, up to 80% dept of discharge which is the max you should discharge any battery. To do this they use a thicker solid lead plate, not a sponge type like a normal car battery. The downside is that there is less surface area on the plates and thus less instant power for starting purposes.

Under ideal conditions this shouldnt be a problem. But alot of us dont live in ideal climates. The Diehard Platinum/Odessy battery actually has the ability to perform both of these functions. This makes it perfect for car audio applications. It also has another added benefit, its claimed to not suffer catastrophic failure like normal car batteries often do, (you go to start it and its just dead due to its own death not being drained) when it starts to fail it will just start cranking slowly...but still should start. So you then take it in and replace it. They also carry a 4 year full replacment warrenty, and from there they are prorated to 100 months.

Optimas seem to be hit or miss. The one that's been in my TL for the past year has been great. Me and my dad have had poor luck in the past both with a red top and yellow top in an easy to turn over low compression V6. I have a feeling they don't like the heat in the engine bay of the turbo cars.

I took another chance on this one and so far it's been great. I prefer lots of cranking amps over the lesser deep cycle because I don't run my system with the engine off and more power available means the starter will last longer. Underpowering the starter will make it fail sooner. Not to say it needs the full 900cca, but even with the battery a little low it still has plenty.
