Open Trunk With Car Running
I have a remote start on my 06 TL and I cannot open the trunk with the key fob with the car running. The dealer who installed the remote start indicated that this is a safety feature (for what?). I'm not sure, but I believe even the factory key fob will not open the trunk with the car running and the key inserted in the ignition. Is there a work around for this as it's a pain to have to shut the car off just to open the trunk.
It's annoying to me too. I keep mine in valet most of the time because of my subs back there and I've had to shut the engine off more than once to get into the trunk. I'm sure it can be done and I'm curious as well.
there is a work around...
Find the key fob transmitter under the dash on the left hand side of the steering column.... (it's basically behind the VSA/Mirror adjustment buttons) cut the yellow wire on it's wire harness....

Thanks Rodney. I am definitely going to try this. I keep my trunk release disabled for obvious reasons. It gets annoying when I have to shut my car off and pull the key every time I need to make an audio adjustment or if I need something from my trunk while the car is running.

Naaah. My sub box is right behind the hole so no one can reach or see anything in my trunk. Besides, I like to open it sometimes to let the air into the car from the sub hitting.
The yellow wire appears to be the fused input from the ignition when it's in the On or Start position. Cutting this wire should fool the system indicating the motor is not running. Not sure what other effect cutting this wire will do. Probably nothing (I hope).
I haven't tried it yet ... But according to the electrical manual... Eliminating the ignition input (yellow wire) should keep the module operational while the car is on... I haven't checked if there's anything in the actual ignition switch the disabled the key fob itself...
I'll try to test this myself this weekend....
Thanks Ed for the compliment

the installer should have run the trunk output signal directly to the switch which is always active...
most likely they just used the CAN-bus to interface with it which wouldn't work while ignition is on.

Cutting the yellow wire did not work for me. Trunk still would not open with either the remote starter key fob or the factory key fob. Guess I'll have to wire an output from the remote starter unit to the trunk unlock circuit.
