No one forced anyone to use the hack. If you can't live with that, DON'T use it! With your logic why would you pay Acura $35k for a TL and still let them advertise with your car? How about your TV? your computer? They all have their own manufacturer's emblem on them and why don't you complain about them?

In addition, unlike the items above, AD's patch is F-R-E-E.

Don't be greedy. He put all the hard work making that work. He is entitled to put whatever he wants in there.

The only thing we are entitled is to choose whether to use his patch or not.

Agreed 10000% - Hence why those stupid initials have been removed.

If you didnt read my post closely enough, I said there is nothing wrong with him putting it there. He coded it so he can code however he likes. I was just responding to why alot of people didnt like it. Also, having a brand signature is different than having a individual signature...at least to me it is.

And you are wrong. We are not only entitled to only choose whether to use his patch or not, we are also entitled to hack his coding to remove his signature. In fact, AD said himself that it was not too hard and welcomed people trying. I was at his website last night looking around....he has a contest running to see who could be the first to do it.

Might be an old contest that he has not updated as clearly people on this board have already figured it out.

Also, why are you so angry?
You're right about people are entitled to hack his code. That's fine if you are capable of doing that.

What annoy me to no ends are people have never contributed a thing on the board and who think they are entitled for an AD free version and gets pissed off when they can't get one for free. For me that's greed.

I am upset b/c this board lost AD for something so trivial. But other than that I'm fine.

I cant remember if the navi coding rows was 7 or 8 digits/letters. Reason I'm asking is because if 0038d69c represents the row itself, and there are multiple 88's in the row, which one do I change to 92?
It seems like you are not too experienced with hex addresses. Save yourself the trouble and check if your hex editor has an address jump to function. The great free hex editor "xvi32" has one if yours does not. You just type in the address and it will highlight the correct cell for you.

Yeah, I was trying to find an address search function on my HEX editor last night, but couldnt find one. I finally figured this out and got it working perfectly. My HEX editor had weird location points. On the left side of the program it had line headings similar to what Apnar posted above....but it had an extra letter or number at the end...I had to physically click on the cell location to see the complete location code similar to what Apnar typed out.

There is no password required to download anything, only to unzip.

Thanks funkymint!

Everything works great now. It took a while to go through all of the different threads that have to do with this but i finally got it done. The hardest part was trying to figure out how to use CEBin. everything else was smooth.

New wallpaper, Trip Computer and OK Bypass! This has made my TL just a little bit more enjoyable.

Thanks to all on the forum.

Thanks for the patch. It works perfectly. I know AngryDad was mentioning he was working on trying to get the initial picture to stay up until the navigation is loaded. Have you found any possibility of this becoming a reality. I would rather not have this text screen at all and just the initial back.bmp file I have instead.
Thanks!

That would definitely be sweet! Not sure if that would ever happen though considering the fact that it took over 2-3 years even just to get rid of the OK button. Trying to get rid of the entire screen might take up to another decade

This is regarding my post above. I have 04 TSX with a 3.30F version of the DVD and I extracted the navi.exe and ran the patch in the first post and that worked fine. But when I put it back into the .BIN I got an error "The size of some records are changed. Addresses in image must be reclaculated and it can be unsafe." I'm guessing this is because I have an older version of the BIN. Is there anything I can do to get this working on my system or do I need to find a 3.50 cd. Any help would be appreciated.

Can't help you on the 3.30F vs 3.50 issues, but I can tell you I ALWAYS get the message you receive when putting it back in the .BIN. It's just a warning and the next line should read something like, "Done" or OK. Try it and see what happens.

Looks like he's really spending a lot of time on this navi stuff. I wonder how long till Acura gets wind of what he's doing.

Okay I got it to load, but my Navi keeps on rebooting. So looks like this version does not work with 3.30F.

hope not, because of him and work of many previous programmers, we can bypass the OK button.

Anyone know if there has been an update with regards to:

API call to draw startup picture again and display startup wallpaper instead of nag screen, and accordingly, the modification of navi.exe import table

I was going to do some more work with IDA, but unfortunately, I just don't have the time. I wanted to see if anyone had done any work to get this underway.

Does anyone have the "original disclaimer text" in a patched navi.exe file available?

I attempted to hex edit my patched file but I am not having any luck.

Thanks!

I was even generally helpful in assisting anyone who wanted to have a go at it themselves both in the threads and via PM. Now that there is no option to pay for it I changed my stance.

Anyway, it can't hurt anyone to have more options. They can use the original AD patch, your patch, my patch I don't really care one way or the other. As I said in my post, I hadn't tried yours out yet but from the description it sounded like there was a limitation in the ability to edit all the text on the screen. If that isn't the case then there is no reason for anyone to use mine over yours.

I definitely meant no disrespect to the work you guys did. I do think it's great that more people were able to create a work around, the more people that are toying around with the code the more cool little hacks will end up emerging.

I understand that a lot of work has gone into modifying this program. But it will always remain a "hobby". The moment you talk money you are going to jail buddy. You are not to make money reverse engineering this software and its written clearly on the DVD Case. So no wonder AD is not accepting money. He rather live in infamy with his initials rather than a jail.

Let's not get into this AngryDad discussion AGAIN. I will close this thread if the discussion continues.

The website requires javascript. If your browser is blocking it, then the links will not work.
