non-TL navi unit in a TL ...

Just finished a non-navi to navi conversion (will post pics/thread when it's complete) on my '06 TL but had trouble with the HFL module. Sent it in to Alpine to have it repaired. Just waiting now ...

It got me to thinking ...
Could I install a TSX Navi DVD-ROM? Would my navi think that I'm driving a TSX (even though the rest of the navi hardware is all TL)? I know that the Navi DVD-ROMs are almost identical and they all use the same DVD discs. But how does it know what car you are driving? Is it hard-wired in the DVD-ROM?

Perhaps in the previous generation Navi, you could get away with buying a different Acura or Honda's navi unit and putting it in your TL because you could hack the disc and force it to load a TL bin file. But from what I've read in the current generation navi system, it loads a "common" bin file and extracts/loads the appropriate modules according to what DVD-ROM you have (TL/MDX/RL/etc.).

Your thoughts?

Thanks.

btw, jptl04 hooked me up with the installation/conversion. Class-act. Totally first rate.
