He even used the exact clip in pins for the connectors from acura and had everyone individually marked exactly right, very easy for me to follow the diagram.

Snowman,
Great Job!
I'm selling my beloved CL to get a TL, looking around i have seen that i could save 2.5-4k on a non navi TL. Would you mind sharing the total cost?
BTW Good to see that someone gives praise where praise is due. Hats off to you.

Snowman,
Where you are showing the text from the DICE adapter (right of the HFL and left of the passenger temp). Other than the Ipod text, what else typically shows up there?
I've got everything showing up as it should for the HVAC but I wasn't sure what else should show up on the sub-display. Right now, I see all the HVAC controls, the clock and HFL phone icon.
Thanks!

Nice install, looks so clean.
As for the person that was asking about the shielding, i made my own harness for my old first gen CL using the pigtails from a second gen navi car. Since i had the factory connectors and about 8 inchs of factory wire I can tell you they leave a little less then two inchs unshielded. I pulled the wires apart to splice my shielded computer wire in and it worked great with no interference at all. If you have any questions feel free to PM me because i got really familar with the navi wiring (granted it was the older gen navi but the shielding and stuff should be pretty simaliar)

The trunk liner finally came in today so here are the final pictures. Also a picture of my IPOD. I put in the center console. Drilled a hole near the light also ran an extra wire for the aux input so if I ever have a portable DVD player I can simply plug it in and listen to it through the car speakers.

The part# is 84601-SEP-A11ZA
The part is about $170 bucks from the dealer. It's pretty easy to swap out once you get the plastic self-locking bolt out from behind the rear seat on the passenger side, it slides right out once you unscrew the cargo knobs as well. You don't really have to have this piece but as you can tell from pix it looks a lot better and it also helps protect the DVD from say......Golf Clubs

Update: I traded my 80g Ipod for a 16g iphone, works great with the dice adaptor. It charges the phone and when i get a phone call it shuts down the music and rings through the sound system (a la bluetooth). also I have the functionality of the iphone with the exception of the ipod portion which is controlled by the car's HFL system.
Let me know if anyone has any questions.

But, while you are taking things apart, you can see where all the rattles would come from. The majority of the snaps are floating. I'm going to use a little silicone sealant on them when I finally reassemble everything.

snowmanTL, how can I get in touch with this person that helped you over the phone? I understand he is in NJ. I also live in VA but upon my return from overseas I want to do this upgrade. I am in the same situation . I have a 2006 TL base model but now I want to upgrade to Navi. If all possible please post his work number or e-mail address so I can contact him directly. Thanks.
SnowmanTL, can you give me a valid email address or phone number for this guy (tech) that helped you with Navi upgrade? I have tried the one on this blog chain but it is not going through. I am planing to do the same by upgrading from non to Navi on 2006 Tl.
First I must say that I am very impressed with your conversion and cannot wait to see the pictures.
But I do have a couple of question for you. If the navi option on a new TL is a $2000 and you paid $1820 for everything and installed it yourself (at least 8 hours labor I count) how did you save money? What is that "way cheaper" than? That seems like a mighty hefty price for all of that. I think that you paid more for everything than it will increase the value of your car given the effect of depreciation. I know, I know, you did it for the looks/function but still. I would love to do this to my car if the price was right but at almost $2k I am not sure I want to. I might consider it for $1k. Did you install dom’s unit so you can play videos off your ipod or add wendy’s backup camera – are they in the woks? Like I said cant wait to see the pics.

when you purchase the car with navi option from dealer, that additional cost + interest gives the bank more money.
the dealer may have that option for 2k but tackle on the interest and your looking at probably a 3500 +/- 200 extra the dealer / bank is making off of you vs paying 1850 in one shot.
So yea, I can see how he saved money. ( yawn...need some coffee)
