Do you have an accessory Ipod hookup or something installed? It could be very possible that the connection from behind the radio is loose thus cuasing this issue!

I do have an aux cable that was installed when I got the car, have not used it yet. I will try my MP3 or Ipod and see if it works.
How hard is to access the rear of the radio to double check the aux cable connection?????

Pretty difficult, if you got the car at a dealer go back and let them deal with it

OK here is the update.

thanks for the reply.

I plugged my mp3 player and it sound fine via the aux cable.

Now the questions are:

1. Where can I find a Y splitter that I can use both the aux cable and the XM radio?

2. Any suggestions are welcomed. I guess that is only one question.

Is it just a regular headphone jack or what?

In the 05 TL there was no factory AUX so it sounds like an adapter was added. The adapter plugs behind the radio and usually comes with a Y adapter to interface b/w the XM radio and the AUX device. More than likely the plug has come loose out of the Y cable or it's gone bad. I'd unplug the AUX completely and plug in the XM straight into the radio to first make sure it works to eliminate the AUX device as a problem. If the volume returns you've found the issue!

It is not that hard to get to the radio, but it isn't easy either. You have to remove the center console (4 screws and the silver trim) then the trim around the gear-shift (4 more screws and some wiggling + unscrewing the shift knob), the upper clock display (simply pull out) and then the 4 screws for the radio. Then you lift up slightly and pull out.

There are a few DIY's and scan's from the service manual on how to disassemble the car and take out the radio if you look in the 3G garage and as well search.

UPDATE:thu mbsup:

Thanks to all that posted. And those who posted a DIY on radio removal,

I did it by accessing the left panel as one of our members suggested. I did have to remove the rear console, shift cover, ac vent, then radio.

without you guys I will still be without XM .

Problem: a Pie 3 Aux unit was connected to the XM plug. No Y adapter to run both XM and MP3, it was a 3 Aux capable module. I removed it and XM is playing fine.

What can I get to be able to connect a MP3 and XM, or Ipod and XM??

Again Thanks To All......

You can get a variety of new units and sell off the old PIE X3 unit. I have the older USA-SPEC model and it works great! The new one adds Text support so you can see what your ipod is playing! As well it has a regular AUX jack for a non-iphone device. It also comes with a Y cable so you don't loose your XM.

There is also the Isimple unit which works fairly well. A few people have had issues but isimple has fixed most of them through firmware updates!

I will be installing a MediaBridge here soon. I hoped to get it done this week but I need my car everyday. It came with a free Sirius unit, so it does satellite, ipod/iphone, and bluetooth for your cell. Looks like a pretty slick unit, but as I said, I don't really know yet. It also allows you to plug in a jump drive. Supposed to display all text and whatnot through the non-navi display like I have. Again, I'll let you know.
