Lightbulb Night Vision

So I did a search and one result pointed to the forums over at mp3forums...

But I'm wondering if anyone here has installed a night vision camera to display through an aftermarket lcd or the stock navi display.

The only safe way to do this is with a HUD and all current systems are still too bulky and expensive to be considered.

This reminds me of the Honda Intelligent Night Vision video I saw about a year ago. It was installed on an RL.

With a quick Google search, I found the video: http://world.honda.com/HDTV/Intellig...Vision/200408/

Looks like a lot of components to make it work in the TL.

oh man... that is awesome! I'd like to do that if I can find the parts. It doesn't seem that hard. I wonder if you can purchase one of those security IR cameras that illuminate up to 150 feet, run that to an aftermarket LCD or navi through DOMs TVandNav2go.

150 ft at 60 mph isn't very much reaction time though. If my calculations are correct, it's almost 2 full seconds.

Granted KennyC brought up a good point about the safety of it not being at eye-level. But I'm sure if it works, someone will build a motorized LCD flipscreen on the dash.

A lot of those components are already on our cars. I've seen this technology before...that's quite amazing.

The Thermal Eye system looks cool, but I don't think I could justify the $5200 price for the camera. This would be a nice addition, though, for one of the roads on my commute that is often swarming with deer at night.

Yeah, the $5k price tag is ridiculous. I seriously doubt that it costs that much considering it's only a $2200 option for the BMW 5 series.
