nextel users wanting a bluetooth phone
Well here we go. For those of you nextel users who have wanted a BT phone to use with the HFL system in the TL, it is out now (the NON-blackberry phone)
The i605 was released and is bluetooth enabled. It is a candybar style phone.
It is on the nextel website as well as phonescoop

I'll go check this thing out; sometimes they aren't as big in real life as in the pics. Even though I doubt it since it's Nextel.
Bottom line is that I won't get this new i605 if it has an echo problem with the TL's HFL like thier Blackberry phone and if it doesn't show call id, batt life, and signal strength.

Caller-ID works, so that's a good thing...
So far there is a slight echo, but not too bad. I am hoping there is a firmware update comming soon to hopefully enhance the capabilities.

Is the echo annoying? Do people on the other end of the line complain of hearing an echo?
I saw this thing in person at the service center but they wouldn't let me take one out to the TL to pair. I believe it only shows an antenna for a signal strength so really it doesn't show signal strength readings as the phone would. Please confirm or correct me.
Also no battery level either, simply caller ID.

Hello Rets and ALL:
I got my Nextel I605 yesterday. The pairing went fine with the TL system.
Caller ID works on incoming calls.
No battery life is indicated and no signal level is available.
There is NO ECHO in my car on either end of the conversation.
The "transfer" option works great also.
I hope this helps.

BTW, I noticed you were in Pittsburg, CA. The company I work for used to have a plant out there. Company called Greif Bros... Just thought it was interesting since it's not a common city...at least from out here in Ohio.

Damn, I want all the features to work. I've stuck with Nextel this long, waiting for them to come out with BT, now and they don't support all the features! What gives.
Does anyone think it will improve with firmware updates?

So of course we've now confirmed that the i605 pairs with the TL but shows no battery strength or signal strength and that the original Blackberry has issues with an echo.
Well I just used the newer Blackberry (different firmware) the current one out on the Nextel markert and no echo! Not only that but is shows battery life and signal strength too! Of course if someone tries to alert you it will still come through the Blackberry itself, I thought that the fact that Nextel has equipment that shows all the features in our TL (call id, signal and batt strength) was huge!
Now the question is, do I want a Blackberry?

I will try to look into this. I talk to the Motorola iDEN engineers every week at work. I know they are working on a BT enabled high tier phone, probably based on the i860 phone board. My company designs the power amp modules for the Nextel handsets, and I know they have been asking about our 3rd harmonic performance (BT frequency band). I will try to get some details.

Nextel needs to get there act straight and start comming out with better phones. . I currently have the I730 and its alright. Dropped the darn thing over 100 times with many dents and dings but it still works.

New BT Phone Coming??
FWIW, I stopped by my local (Orlando) Nextel retailer today to see about upgrading to the i605 (I pick up my TL tomorrow ). They said that a new flip phone (i936?--derived from the i930 which was just approved by the FCC) with Bluetooth capabilities would be coming out in the next 60 days or so.

for the record, my i605 does pair with my car fine.... the first time i paired it i tried to select "find me" on the phone, but the car didn't find it. I then used the phone to link to the car with "link to devices" after telling the car to pair and it worked.
i also had to power cycle my phone before i got audio.... once paired it works fine all the time.
I get a phone symbol and an antena, but no signal strength. Caller id seems to work fine. A quick check out phone number transfer failed, with "bluetooth busy" or something like that.
more messed up is direct connect calls.... i haven't done a detailed test yet, but on receiving calls, the car acts like it's receiving a call, but if the audio you get is short, you don't hear anything because it takes a couple seconds for the stereo to switch over.... longer audio you do hear. I don't think i succeeded in sending any audio, since the call "ends" as soon as the other persons audio stops.
