I think it was a total waste of money. I did not notice any difference whatsoever.

My last disc I had in my car was a 2007 or 2008 version. I purchased the $99 2013 disc update and I notice there are a ton more point of interests around me. Also there are a lot of more displayed icons on the map if you choose to display things like gas stations, atm machines, food places, grocery stores, parking garages, etc.

Also when you choose a routing method, you can minimize the amount of electronic toll roads you will run into if you don't have a toll tag. If you have a toll tag than you can choose to maximize the use of electronic toll roads to reduce your travel time.

In my opinion I went from a 2007 version to a 2013 version. Within that 5-6 year window A LOT of new streets and highways were changed, fixed, or built. Also a lot of new stores in my area were built. For $99 it was easily worth it to me.

However, I do not plan on updating the disc anymore. I believe updating it every 1-2 years is pointless and expensive. Every 5+ years makes better sense.

Please don't expect the new 2013 disc to turn your navigation display into a high def 720p resolution screen with 3d models and google earth. That's part of a reason why I want a new Audi because they have google maps integrated for their navi system. Pretty bad ass

I was also in the same boat. When I got my TL it still had the original disk from 07, found that the new DVD was on sale for $99 and it was a no brainer for me considering all of the new construction.

Pissed me off that they still didn't update an on-ramp next to my work which has been there for 2 years now.
