New System Help

Well I picked up 2 10" comp vr's in a ported box with a Kicker 400.1 for $200!! Pretty solid deal and I found out my car still had a 4 gauge amp kit installed already...sweet. Only bad thing is I think the box isn't made correctly. The guy built it but it doesn't seem to get that loud or have any punch at all..I can barely feel it (not hear it). Is this a problem with the box you think? It moves air pretty well but it has no punch to it, maybe I got spoiled with my Digital Design SQL setup.

Also, my car already had the 4ga. kit like I stated but when I hooked it all up bass was coming out from my subs AND my factory sub. I pulled the panel that has the factory amp and there is an adjustable LOC in there. I had to unplug the factory sub but would this be a problem in my system wiring? I thought the LOC cut the power completely to that channel? Ugh....it was cheap but I still think I should feel much more punch in my seat than I'm feeling

you can try running the loc on the rear channel instead of the sub channel and see if you get better output that way

I'll try to do that, thanks jdot. I might just take the subs out and check them out to make sure everything is still hooked up okay, etc. When I open the trunk they seem to be beating pretty good and moving a good amount of air through the ports but they completely lack punch. Everything seems like its 35hz and lower...if that makes sense. The box is pretty good size so maybe its tuned too low. I called a local shop and they wanted $45 to take a look over it and see if any wiring is messed up, if anything is wrong with the box, etc...and if I need something new I can put the $45 towards the new box or whatever I might need.

Now that I think about it, my buddy has some 12" Kicker Comps (not vr's) off a little amp in a pre-fab sealed box and they punch WAY harder than mine. There's gotta be something wrong with the box or wiring

yea also make sure the subs arent wired reverse polarity! That will totally kill the sound. unplug one of the subs. if it gets louder then switch the pos and neg wires on the other sub and see what ya got!

Well the wiring looks to be correct. Its not that it doesn't hit loud b/c it does...it just lacks a tight punch. It's very boomy which leads me to believe the box is tuned at around 42-45hz. I might buy a new box here locally but most are pre-fab and will be tuned high as hell too! I've got an adjustable LOC....should I be looking at that or changing anything? I didn't really see anything you could change so not sure what it means by adjustable

Also, are our cars pretty dampened already?? You open the trunk and listen to the bass and its MUCH louder than when your sitting in the drivers seat. I've pulled the middle console down in the backseat and that helped a little but it seems I'm only getting a little back deck rattle and my passenger door is rattling.

build or buy a correct box with the correct measurements for your sub.
