New product for IPOD users

according to monster cable.com ---

In conjunction with Sheridan, Wyo.-based SoundGate, Monster's iCruze is an interface that enables the connection of an iPod to a factory or aftermarket radio through either the car's existing CD changer or satellite radio port. An optional display is available if the existing head unit is limited and cannot display text. The iCruze display is a multi-line, 20-character backlit LCD display that reproduces the same information as that on the iPod, such as song title and song artist. Since the iCruze is a direct connect to the automobile's sound system via the CD changer or satellite radio port, sound quality is also incredibly clear.

Does anyone have any info on this product or does anyone think it will be compatible with navi versions of our car?

I believe this has been posted before, anyway here's a start Icruze
Most of the info everyone has came from the Moster press release. Won't work with the 3F TL, needs an aux input which is currently used by XM. Do a search on Ipod or Icruze. I think one of the forum members had emailed Monster to check its compatability with our car. Their reply was it will not work with 04/05 TL.

10050 - Neo iOn SP
Acura: TL : 2004 - 2005
The Neo iOn connects the iPod (3g, 4g, Mini, Photo, or U2) to the Acura TL's factory radio. Full quality audio and controls - easy installation!

i believe its 200 bucks..... claims to use cd changer port(?)

here is there email-- salesbox@mp3yourcar.com

If it operates on the same premise as this one Autotoys it may not work.

Hawhyen51, I bought the one from Autotoys but haven't installed it yet. I'm hoping it'll work cuz I have the Canadian TL. Does it not work?

The question has been asked before about the Canadian version having the vacant aux input because of no XM. However has anybody really determined this? I don't want to be the one to dismantle my console, so if anybody knows for sure, please keep us informed. It is a little disconcerting because our front buttons are different from US model. Maybe they designed this unit only for us - how lucky - no XM - no aux.

xlr8ng,

I bought the AUX adapter from Autotoys and was going to install it this weekend but didn't get a chance because I was too busy installing a remote starter. Took forever!! I'm going out of town for a week but when I get back I'll be trying the AUX adapter. Supposedly when it's connected, you hit CD/DVD twice and it switches to that input. We'll see! I'll keep this thread posted.

Seeing as how you folks up north don't have XM (as of this time) it may. I would find out from your acura dealer if the port is available. Here's an excerpt from the DETAILS section of Autotoys. I bolded the last line which may or may not affect you.

For 2004+ Acuras and 2004+ Hondas. (for the 2003+ Accord/Element or the new 2004+ Acura TSX. Tsx AUX adapter! Hard to find!)

Gives you audio in via your cd changer port!

bonus! Our converter also allows you to plug in a Sony unilink 6 disc changer if you are not using the rca port. Get a RCA Switcher and get dual use of this thing.

REQUIRES OPEN CD CHANGER PORT.

****If your port is taken like for NAV, select AUX WITH NAV option from DROP DOWN which includes a Y cable for vehicles with NAVIGATION

If you are using a device like the XM COMMANDER, some XM tuners and external devices will exhibit noise because of a ground loop, buy optional ground loop to eliminate noise. The noise will exist only during when the car is on, usually happens with xm tuners, etc hooked up to the car directly for power.

**REQUIRES an OPEN CD CHANGER PORT. If your car has XM installed, it will NOT work since it is using the port.

As you can see it won't work on US models, so Keep us posted as on your progress and maybe a review of the product for the forum.

Also ,I called MP3yourcar.com and I was told that it does not work on the TL if you have an OEM Nav unit installed. They are working on another solution for us.

some clarifications please...

(1) if you've got XM installed, you cannot use the AUX port. what if you don't plan to use XM? Hawaii doesn't have XM yet(well atleast not when I bought the car a few months back). Couldn't I just unplug the XM from the AUX in the back of the unit, and use it for my IPOD?

assuming I can unplug the XM AUX for my IPOD, then...

(2) do you think i'd be able to control the ipod through the car's control (i.e. the steering wheel). If I still have to change songs via the IPOD, then I think i'd rather use DVD-A.

thx in advance!

This is from the IcruzeFAQ page:
I have a factory indash multi-disc CD Changer in my vehicle. Will iCruze work?
NO.

I don't see my vehicle listed on the application chart. When will a module be available for my make/model?
New modules are being developed on a regular basis. Check back each month to see which new vehicles are iCruze capable.
Based on the FAQ, I don't think it'll work, IMO. As of this post I have not received any reply form Monster regarding the TL. BTW, where you at in Sac?

Even if it does work with a CD changer. How would you control it? We don't have a button on our radios to switch to a CD changer.

Supposedly, when you press CD/DVD twice it switches to changer/AUX mode... I have yet to test it. I'll be installing the autotoys.com box on my car this weekend, so we'll see!

Zax123 I think you’re the only Canadian Brave enough to pull the stereo out! But if this works I think every Canadian TL is going to be in the garage over the holidays!!

Also I’ve asked this a few times in other post but no luck. If there is an extra port for XM back there then we must have the same head unit as the U.S. So does that mean we could call Acura and buy the rest of the XM crap they didn't put in the Canadian model?

There might be an extra port for the XM, but there would be no way to select it and I doubt the controls on the head unit would suddenly start working properly, but I could be wrong. We could maybe just go and buy the US head unit, but that's darn expensive... For me, having my iPod work in there will be just fine. I'll know tomorrow when I take 'er apart, and I'll be sure to let everyone know.

Guys, just a quick message to say that the box from autotoys.com works perfectly on the Canadian TL. I now have a fully-functional AUX port on my car. WOOHOO. I'll post some pictures later, but I just wanted to let you know that it works great. You press CD/DVD twice and it switches to some kind of hidden CD-Changer mode in the stereo. SWEET!

I'll post a separate thread with a howto on how to do it later.

zax123,

I have a TL on order now from Acura 2000 (GTA area). Exactly which Autotoys box did you get and how much was it after delivery? Is this something I can quickly install or should I insist that the dealer do it before I take delivery?

Tordoc,

It's not easy to install AT ALL. You have to take the whole console apart. It's ridiculous. Most head units pop right out, this one is insane to remove. I don't know if the dealer will do it for you, they might. You have to pick a place to terminate your RCA wires. I have taken lots of pics and will post up a HOWTO when I get a chance.

One thing: My box is not working perfectly. It only works part of the time. I suspect it's because the box is defective. But I'm not sure. The box is actually made by blitzsafe, and it's this page at autotoys:

http://www.autotoys.com/x/cust/produ...?productid=200

When you order from Autotoys, you don't need to get the navigation option even though the site says you do. Our cars integrate the Navi another way. So you can get the basic ($79.95) unit. I got the navigation option and don't need. I'm hoping autotoys will refund me. We'll see!

I've filed a support request with them to see if they'll send me a replacement. I wouldn't buy it until I've gotten a chance to test it with the new box. When it does work it's awesome though...

I'll definitely keep the forums posted as to my progress.

Rob
