That's really strange...shouldn't be giving this issue. I'm almost wondering if your dvd module in the trunk is maybe shot. I know when I got the update disc for the other half's TSX when I put the new disc in it basically was the end of the unit. The actual units seem to clunk out pretty fast, and from my understanding if its starting to go when you swap discs it just sorta makes the issue worse. Have you tried removing the disc from the player and reinserting it?

Yikes, yeah man this is what I'm struggling with...while the voice commands are currently disabled in my TL the maps and everything else works fine so I'm hesitant to try to change anything.

well it sucks i just bought the system and had a hell of a time to make up the wiring harness and the install. i only have had the system for a week. i guess i will open up and manually clean the lens with a cotton swab and alcohol. anyone know how hard it would be to open up?

You could go to like Walmart or I know GameStop has them, it's a disc cleaner.

It looks like a CD and has small brushes on the bottom to clean the lens, I think they come with a liquid cleaner to put on the brushes too.

Hey man, how had was it to open it up? I'd LOVE to try to get a DIY together to open up the module and troubleshoot the issue (lens/part/etc). Apparently if a part goes down its a real pain to get the part from Alpine.

it was easy. all you have to do is take the dvd drive out of the car. take the bracket that holds the dvd off. then you remove the face plate screws, then take the screws that hold the top cover on,and then you will see the guts. their is another top cover which is held by 2 screws, then you will see the center piece that is chrome, its a piece that holds the dvd tight, after you remove it you will see the lens hidden but a cotton swap will get it. i hit twice with alcohol and put her back together and it works!!

now this will not work if you dvd drive has other issue and or makes noise. my car had neither, all it would do is not read the new dvd. if someone has the same issues as mine and would like for me to try and is either local or would trust me and ship it i could try it and do it for free and i could take pics

Cleaned the DVD, didn't help. It's getting worse. Now I can't access some of the features on the screen and the color on the screen is off, it's not as bright and colorful as it used to be. I'm stressing out over this because I'm affraid the unit needs replaced.

I cleaned the unit itself. It doesn't make any loud noises, just the sounds a DVD player makes when it's reading the disk.

How did u do it? I opened the unit up it's self and got to see the lens in a far corner. Then I grabbed a swap dunk it in alcohol and rubed it a few times. Then I used the dry side to swipe it clean and repeaded one more time. Now I have heard of u do it more than twice that u can damage the lens. It worked for me bit the only issue I had is that it would not download the new software for from the new disk. My old disk works fine along with the new one. Please explain how u cleaned the disk. U did clean the lens right

I cleaned the lens with a q tip and alcohol. I've cleaned the disk several times.

I guess the unit might be damaged. Did u put back together right? The metal cover was kind of a pain to put together. I had the unit upside down to install the circular thing that holds the disk and the metal bracket
