I have an '04TL with Navi and a Passport 8500. I've never had any issues with laser falsing, but after reading all the issues is this post, I played around with the 8500 yesterday. I found that the navi screen seems to set it off. At first I thought it was the digital clock/temperature lcd at the top of the dash.

Give it a try. Point your 8500/x50 at the navi screen and see what happens. The only thing I can figure is that if you have the detector mounted very high on the windshield possibly diffuse light from the navi screen could reach the detector??

I saw where someone else thought the laser from the DVD player was setting it off. Just to rule that out, I put a piece of card board over the dvd slot and the detector still went off.....
