New to Acura (but in love), need some help!
I bought a used 2005 Acura TL a few months back. I still have to update the Navigation, right now it still has the Disk that was in it when it was bought brand new by the previous owner. My voice command doesn't work, it wont recognize anything that i say. And I can't get my HFL to work; it just gets stuck booting up.
My questions are: Could my problems have anything to do with the extremely out of date Nav? Could my southern accent be causing the voice command problem? (southern not insanely redneck. i speak like a normal human being just with a "twang", not what a lot of people assume southerners sound like because of movies)
any other suggestions or tips having to do with my car will be greatly appreciated! thanks in advance!

replace the HFL module. they are known to either fail or drain the battery. i am not sure if the voice commands are linked to the HFL or not. I dont' use the voice commands (I"m more of a button and knob person). I have used the HFL.
not sure about the southern accent. you just need to speak normally without annuciating what you are saying.
as far as the outdated navi affecting those systems...no. i still have the 2005 navi disc in my TL. my HFL still works most of the time when it isn't busy dropping my incoming calls back to my phone. my MDX does the same thing. it's annoying.
welcome to AZ!!

I realized after I hit post that I didn't clarify what was going on with the voice command. it will register that I'm making a command, but wont do what I tell it to. it will do something completely random that doesn't even sound like the command i said!

First and foremost your HFL is saying "booting up" and stuck like that because it's not working correctly.
I highly recommend you hurry and disconnect your HFL Bluetooth module ASAP because when the HFL is stuck at "Booting Up.." it will continue to draw current even when your car is turned off and your in bed sleeping at night. Trust me, my HFL was also stuck at "booting up..." until I searched on here and found out it will kill your battery if you don't take action. I disconnected mine and have not replaced it yet.
You WILL wake up to a dead battery eventually.
Your solution to fixing this problem is either
1. Disconnect the HFL bluetooth module
or
2. Replace the HFL bluetooth module (~$180) with a new one.

yes, i've tried them all just to make sure! i went through the list on the help section. my husband tried it too and it did the same to him (but his accent is a bit thicker than mine too so that may not help )

ironmom even though it does not say booting up anymore, it is still drawing current when the car is turned off.
By it getting stuck at "booting up" when you press select on hands free link only verifies that your hfl Bluetooth module is at fault.
So even if you go to another menu and return back to it, and it does not say booting up anymore that doesn't mean your safe.. the problem is still there and needs to be corrected ASAP before your battery dies.
I took action and removed the module within 3 days of realizing the reason why it kept saying "booting up"

The HFL is not particularly sensitive to accents; your HFL just doesn't work properly at all.
