Need Stock Amp for 3G TL
Hi Everyone,
My '04 TL (non-nav) started making funny audio noises today. It's a low-volume static noise that appears on multiple audio sources (I tested AM/FM, XM, CD and they all have it). With the volume turned up it's hard to hear, but at the lowest few volume settings it is very obvious. Issue disappears completely when the engine is turned off and the stereo is running off the battery alone. My searches here lead me to strongly suspect that this is an amplifier problem, as the few threads that have turned up describing my problem exactly have ended up being a bad amp.
Of course, she just went out of extended warranty 2 months ago to the day.
I understand from other posts that this is ~$600 parts+labor to have the dealer replace, and I'm not interested in spending that much. I am happy with the audio quality provided by a working stock sub and am not interested in going to an aftermarket replacement due to lack of plug-and-play options that power all channels.
I can get a new one for $289 from Delray Acura (AcuraOEMparts.com). HOWEVER, I know that many TL owners out there have replaced their OEM amplifier with aftermarket amps. Anybody out there still have their pulled amp that they'd be willing to sell? I am under the impression that the amps for all 04-08 TLs are interchangeable (correct me if I'm wrong?), so I obviously have preference for a newer one to avoid buying one that dies on me.
Cheers!

I would check the Black Market but Im sure someone will be able to help you out. this is a great opportunity to get an aftermarket amp to push a little more power to the speakers. They will sound so much better. You can search the forum on that topic more if you're interested. Good Luck

No responses from anyone just yet - as the temperature has dropped in Atlanta to below freezing the sound is even more noticeable especially in the morning when the car is warming up.

I think I am having the exact same issue with my 04 TL as the original poster (radio whine when Engine is on) and I am guessing it's the amp as well. If there is anyone else out there willing to part with a factory part they no longer need I would be interested. The funny thing is I live in south Florida and am not that far from Delray Acura so buying that is my fall back..but if there an option to save money, I'm all for it.
Thanks,
Jason

I don't want to have to fiddle with running new cables or anything like that. Replacing the stock amp looks to be a piece of cake. I got access to mine and reseated all of the connections to ensure that a loose connection wasn't the problem. Removing and replacing looks straightforward.
Honestly I'm very happy with the stock sound system so I don't feel the need to upgrade to something else.
Thanks!

Be warned though (and don't want to kill anyone's potential sale) but I had the problem and a LOT of other 04's seem to be describing a similar issue of noise (I was using my oem amp to boost signal to my aftermarket amp and it was intolerable).
I'd think about doing the RF upgrade from Uncald4 IF I was going this route. It's basically plug and play and similarly priced to a new OEM amp.

Hey Swoosh, I agree with what you've said and YES, technically, you do lose center channel, but he made it really easy to get it back and supposedly the mids/highs will sound amazing.
It's not an option for ME and I agree with what niebur said and that would make me leary of buying it but at close to $300 for the oem amp that is now tried and proven to fail after x amount of years, I'd consider going with the upgrade.
Again, if you got no problems with your oem amp, then I'd stick with that and not go with the RF, but if you are thinking of replacing anyway, to me, that's an option.
Go big or go home, right?

The one dats on da pass side by the foot? Just the amp n no harness/wires? Never unhooked a factory amp before so sorry for the dumb questions. I have an 06 acura tl with aftermarket amps so i dont have no use for da factory amp. I'll try to see if i can take it out this weekend. Didnt know people would want them.

that is a ridiculously easy install....
aside from that 1 10MM bolt up top...
I'd be afraid to buy a used one cause if it's from an 04, you may end up with the noise again.
