Need help on what smart phone to get

So I was talking with my father inlaw who stills pays for my wifes phone on verizon and he mention he could add me to his plan. If he added me it would now cost me 45$ a month for a smart phone vs 57$ for a non smart phone i have now. Now what phone to get....iphone or droid?

Have people had an easier time connecting either to the TL? Im leaning towards the iphone bc my brothers and sister has one and in know my wife will end up getting one too.

But never been the biggest apple fan....I need help picking one or the other. ANY ADVISE? WHICH WORKS BETTER WITH THE TL?

THANKS

Sorry if i posted in the wrong place.

yes wrong section. Go to the technology Off topic section.

Also there is going to be a big debate between the two phones, it also depends on what you are looking for in a phone.

If you are a heavy data user, keep in mind that Verizon no longer has the unlimited data plan. But right now they have a promotion to double (4gb total data/month vs. 2gb data/month) the data if you get a 4G LTE phone.

I just switched from Android to iPhone 4S specifically because of my car. I installed a PXAMG harness in my car and a ProClip mount so now I have my iPhone in easy reach while I'm driving. Not only does the harness charge my iPhone while driving, but if you have navigation like I do then you can view track/title on the screen not just for iTunes, but Pandora as well (plus change songs, playlists through the dash and steering wheel). It's also nice because my car's navigation does not always find addresses that I'm looking for so I use my iPhone as back up. Keep in mind that this is not exactly a cheap set up and it does take a few hours to install yourself if you want it done correctly.

This is a fellow AZine member's set up. I have mine mounted the same way using the same clips. I just didn't go the extra mile and get the remote control or video capabilities. It's a great set up.

I can tell you what not to get. Never ever ever ever ever ever get the Droid II Global.....ever! I'm almost to #15 in a year. It does everything from text the wrong number (even though I have the right name) to rebooting on every call in the middle of the call to paging people while sitting on the coffee table to deleting all pictures. You name it, this phone has done it.....many times.

I'm due for the upgrade in a few days and iPhone it will be. Screw the Android platform. Most of the time I use my cheap work flip phone because at least it's reliable. By the time the Droid makes a call it's done something to piss me off so it sounds like I'm always in a bad mood when I call people.

I've got 3 friends, the GF, and a co-worker that had the exact same problems. They were smarter than me and got a different phone after the 4-5th replacement. Knowing what I know now I would gladly have paid full price for the iPhone to not deal with this stuff. Until I started giving out my work number people were saying I was flaky, even some members on here.

I just got the Galaxy S2 and it pairs and works fine with the TL.

The phone is awesome. I took the iphone out of consideration when the 4s wasn't released with 4g speed and a bigger screen. When I was comparing the iphone with other top tier android phones it was an easy decision that the iphone wasn't for me.

There are so many Android phones out there and some have quality issues. That is going to happen when you have so many choices with different manufacturers. I had an LG G2X with a weak battery life and it had a reboot issue that I didn't like so it went back. I wasn't going to hope that a software fix was going to fix it. Just make sure you get one that has good user reviews and you'll love it.

Actually when I think about it.. Stop listening to what other people have to say and go in the store and do the comparison for yourself, we don't know what you need/want in a phone.

Very true...

Im still kinda undecided tho..... the only really good thing out of this is i can pay 45$/month verse 57$ and have a smart phone by being added to my farther inlaws plan.....

one big plus of the IP is my siblings have one. we face time with my wifes ipad all the time and it is very easily to say hi and talk with my nephews and nieces...

But im not the biggest Apple fan.....

As an Android user and fanboy, I still think you should get an iphone. Android is awesome, but it's 1) built for tinkerers and 2) has had some quality control issues with some manufacturers. Lots of really good Android phones out there, but there are so many brands and models that many of them are bound to have problems. Apple has produced a very well-polished, albeit mostly closed, platform, and it's probably going to yield the least problems for someone coming from a feature phone.

Also, it annoys the crap out of me that people have to base their phone-buying decisions on what their CAR supports. There's no reason why I should not be able to use whatever Bluetooth phone I want. This isn't new technology. If the phone doesn't support all features the Acura requires, then make it so just those features don't work; don't make it so you can't use any bluetooth feature! This is why Apple is so successful -- usability is priority #1.

I have an HTC Incredible and it hooks up great with the NAVI so I can take calls in the car, etc. I don't have it hooked up for music though.
