Need help with Nav replacment

The back light went out on my nav about a year ago today none of the buttons around the navigation would respond and the defroster is wide open I can't adjust temp fan speed ect. I am just going to get a used replacement to swap out but they seem to be lumping all the 3rd generation together when I know the 06 and 08 are different. so...
will any third gen version work if i swap or will the drive need to be replaced?
if they send me one that isn't out of an 06 which i think is the alpine model will the connectors match up?

I could probably live without nav but i need hvac to function

tia
Its for 06 TL 6mt

which one dying out? the screen or the DVD drive. IF its the DVD drive then just sent the DVD drive to Alpine for refurbish, cost is around $450 with turn around time about 1 week - 1.5 week.

If you bought a used unit you can take a picture of the serial# of the DVD drive it self and go in any Acura dealer provide them with your vin # or you can go on my owner acura site to retrieve the navi code.

you can try to buy a used navi to see if its work, can you run the diagnostic screen by hold down map/ menu and cancel? The 07-08 has different wiring and DVD drive as well.

**Update**
navi screen was really easy to replace i just followed instructions from here and you tube. Pulled the console back and removed the radio and navi swapped out the screen put it back together.

on the 2006 model you will use the same navi code since the code follows the drive in the trunk.. never would have guessed that one but anyway easy fix cost me 100 bucks and maybe 30 or 45 minutes taking my time. this resolved the problem i had with everything connected to the navigation module which included the smaller clock information screen on top and the hvac controls

I have to replace my blacked out display screen. Where did you order yours, what is the part number and how much was it? Pulling apart the dash to get to the screen looks like a pain, but seems to be possible just time consuming. Did you run into any "gotchas" that I should be on the lookout for? Thanks for any help you can provide!

I got the unit from ebay the price seems to be all over the place but i got it for 100 shipped. I attached a picture for part number reference. as for removing the dash between the instructions here and you tube it was pretty easy just get plastic tool for interior so you don't scratch up what you have. if you start from inside the console and remove those 2 screws and pop off the plastic you can see all the screws and everything just kind of pushes towards the back seat
I had 2 things that were a little screwy someone had taken mine apart before and mixed the screws up so i wasn't sure which went where I should have taken a picture of the screws so i knew for sure which screw went into which hole I had some silver and some black but they were definitely mixed up from before.
the other thing was the screws holding the radio in on the bottom i dropped one and well im still not sure where it is. if i had taken more plastic off beside the glove box i wouldn't have dropped it or maybe taken some precautions to not let it fall to begin with honestly it was much easier than i expected.
Make sure you get the correct one since all the gen 3 TL's have different navigation systems. Mine is 2006 TL i know they changed in 08 but im not sure about 07 or before the 2006 model TL
hope that helps

you think the TL screen is annoying when it goes out? wait until you deal with the RL lol. There are so many thing that ties to the screen and not a single hard button found for that function, I am glad you solve the issue.

Thanks for your help. I ordered one fro 290.00. Needed for the 2007 TL S and pricing was 300.00 to 600.00. Just hope it lasts for a while, this will be the 3rd unit. The brand new 2nd one lasted 2 years..... Seems like a sh*tty design!
