Driving home yesterday I noticed my navigation just shutoff while I was driving. I tried clicking the button on the console and steering wheel and it would beep but I still get a black screen. This morning I started the car up and it was still black. I did here a beep noise, which I believe is the warning message you get whenever the navigation is on and you have to push “OK”. Even the backup camera did not activate while reversing.
I don’t know what it could be. The only thing that I did different was I was using SS driving home, which I rarely do, but don’t think that should have any effect on the navi display? Any ideas as to what it could be. TIA.
I had this exact issue happen a few times, while still under extended warranty. Brought it to the dealership and they evaluated the unit. It appeared the navigation unit itself was faulty and actually was scratching my navi disk and making this issue occur.
It was intermittent, but nonetheless covered under extended warranty. They took the unit from the trunk and sent it out for repair, I guess to Alpine as described by others. It took about 3 weeks (they quoted between 3-6 weeks) before it was back and ready to be installed.
There was no cost to me whatsoever; so I definitely recommend bringing it in for a look. Just keep in mind you won't have access to anything involving the screen for the time period that the unit's out. The radio will still work but the screen will be permanently black until the unit's replaced.
^Thanks Munchkin. It actually came back on two days later and seems to be fine now. I will def. have it checked out the next time I go to the dealership.
could be a problem with the dvd unit. if so, send it to alpine for repair for $158.

Hi.
My nav screen went black a few days ago as well. The screen showed a nav disc error. In no way does Acura forces a nav DVD update correct? I even tried another 3.40 disc and it still shows the error. I restarted the nav as well but it now shows "please check disc" in green. I kinda figured out that I needed repairs to the DVD nav drive.
My question is how do I get started with the repairs through Alpine? Do I just send the unit there without calling them first? The address is:

Did u find the answer to what it is cuz im having the samr problem with mine
If you can still hear the OK screen beep and can actually press OK through the joystick then your screen is toast. New one from junkyard is about $50 or I can sell you one for $100 shipped. You’d have to know what you’re doing though.
