Navigation DvD upgrade Questions - Non Database Improvements (04-06)

Hey guys,

I have an 04 TL which still has the original v3.3 nav disk (sys 1.004). With the 3.7 disk now available at $150 I was considering the upgrade. But, I still have a few questions.

I understand that the disk includes updated roads / poi's, but what are the software differences? Is it more optimized? Does it have better route prediction? Upgraded XM software / anything other than nav? Different interface? I can't seem to find any of this info on the alpine site...And $150 seems a bit steep just for a road database update.

Thanks in advance,

Rob

I got the update for my 04 for Christmas and the only differance I can see is some road updates and poi's. Nothing else seems to have changed. The only reason I wanted it is because my whole development was not on my original disc. My house does exsist on the update and it doesn't annoy me with warnings about unverified roads.

Goto acuranavi.com & enter your model/year info; goto previous/prior updates and you can see the software changes

I love my Navi but haven't upgraded the disk since car was new. For the price of the new disk we could buy a cheap, much upgraded portable unit.

At some point I will upgrade the disk but hope Acura rethinks their marketing of this item.

Updated maps, POI's a MUST for hospitals in my case , better route guidance as new roads have been added, and it also now shows which roads are one way roads. The male voice has been deleted.

Hah, deletion of the male voice...

Sounds like I'll still be buying it... It will just be less exciting.

Question: I have the 3.30g disc. I'm getting the 3.70 disc. I looked at acuranavi.com, and found that the coverage was expanded to "include" my city in the 3.40 disc.

What exactly does this mean? Obviously, my city is included in the 3.30g disc, and not EVERY road is "unverified". Does "coverage" just mean that a certain percentage of verified roads has been reached, or is it something else?

I use the POI information, especially the phone numbers in the Navi, so I'm pretty stoked to have coverage for my city, DST updates, and updated POIs, but I'm really curious what "coverage" means in this regard.

(...now, if when I do a search, it wouldn't pull up something 3,500 miles away, I'd probably think I'd died and gone to Heaven.)

Yeah, the whole default search being by relevance rather than distance is pretty silly... There should at least be an option to set the maximum range.

I have the new disc and my car still has the male voice. Nothing is different except for updated roads and poi's

I'm not upset about the content, just the price for the updated disk. I think they could make a very fair profit selling for $100 or less. The price of technology has come down a lot over the past few years and we are being robbed by Acura.

I believe the new disk has the fix in it for the Daylight savings time change. I have the new disk and I will change the DST to automatic and see if this spring it changes at the right date.

It absolutely is, and so far there doesn't seem to be an OK-Button hack for the 3.70 disc.

...not to mention the fact that I read somewhere that Angrydad isn't doing hacks anymore. Someone PM'd him about getting a copy without the "AD" tag (remember, he was selling the non-"AD" hack at one time, which is why he originally got banned from here). He issued a public response to this PM stating that he's no longer doing this kind of hack, because he feels it violates Acura/Alpine's property rights.

If he's serious about this, I don't think you'll be able to look to him to hack the latest versions. However, he still lists the other hacks on the vistabug site, so who knows?

If you don't want to pay $155 for the latest and greatest v3.70, you can buy various intermediate versions on eBay. There is a decent aftermarket for those Navi DVDs! For example, a v3.30 DVD can be had about $40. v3.40 might set you back $55-$60, v3.50 maybe $110-$120, and v3.60 between $125-$138.

I just bought my new v3.70 DVD for $155 from Acura, and promptly sold my v3.60 for $138 so the one-year upgrade only cost me $17 out of pocket! So don't throw away the old DVDs!

No changes in the Houston or Katy area!

My house is still not on the list. I wish there was a way to add a point of interest.

You can add a home address, and you can also add personal locations. If your address doesn't come up, then you can always drive there and say "Register Current Location."

Now, if your entire road isn't there, you're kind of screwed, but if it is, adding a location is certainly possible.
