Guys I am thinking of purchasing a clean 06 with navi here locally. Having owned a 07 also, i want to know if the 06 is upgradeable to 08-09 specs. Do the 3.xx dvds have updates? Also, is the system essentially the same? Ie touch screen?

They are both touch screen but the screen/interface looks nicer on '07+ from what I understand...can someone post a pic of what the navi map screen looks like on an '07 as I have not seen it myself. Here's what an '04-'06 looks like:

 

Is there an update dvd available to bring it to 2008 map specs? Also does the bluetooth work as well as the 07s?

 

Yes there are updates for 3.xx, the current version is 3.70 but I think they are sold out still...you can try acuranavi..com. I dunno about the bluetooth but I'm pretty sure they work about the same except with the '07+ you can call from your phone book via the navi screen while in the '04-06 you can only dial from your voice recognition phone book (numbers you can't see on the screen), or via the numbers that are set to navi destinations.

 

How would I update from the 3.. to the 07 4.xx version? Change out the brain or dvd player?

 

i think maybe the screen/the dvd player and the cd/dvd up front aswell. I dunno if the plugs are the same...can anyone verify if the plugs from an 06 radio/dvd are the same? if so i bet you could upgrade

 

My 2007 navi was awesome, this 2006 is just such a cherry car that I need to buy it. If it is crazy money to upgrade then I won't worry with it. One of my buddies has an 05 and he loves his navi and has never even updated it.

 

To update for the new 4.xx navi, you will need a new DVD drive, XM unit, new radio, and have to rewire a bunch in the car, pretty expensive for a slight upgrade. The 3.xx versions are good enough.

 

cool, as long as Acura continues to support it, I wont worry about it. My 2004 Cayenne had a cd based system, when they went to dvd based they no longer made cds so it was stuck in 2004 forever.

 

I'm wondering if anyone has tried upgrading parts of the 06 navi with 07 software (i.e, seeing if some of the '06 navi executables can be replaced by '07 software) . I've got an '06 but would love to be able to use the import phonebook features in the '07.

 

to import6 the phonebook, the HFL system is more indepth and more involved with the navigation unit, that would be solved by upgrading the HFL unit, and DVD unit, and rewiring it all so it would work, but then your radio would not work, so you would need a radio upgrade, which would also mean you will need an XM tuner upgrade to have the XM working and the Navi traffic working, which means even more rewiring.
