navi upgrade

Sorry ahead of time. I know this question has been asked before (when the '07 model came out) but I can't find the thread.

Has Acura come out with an update to the navi so that '04-'06 TLs can get the real time traffic. I would also be interested in a back-up camera if they sell that after market.

Navi upgrade

has anyone thought about changing the dvd player/navigation in their 05 TL. I live in hawaii and do not have coverage. I as thinking of just grabbing the navi player from a rl and plugging it into the head unit of my tl would this work? i think it should just plug right in since both are alpine. I am right on this?

There is no update via the DVD that will give 04-06 owners the Nav-Traffic feature. It would require a complete swap of the hardware.

FOr the back-up camera, you will need a camera and DOM's TVNAV2GO which a very popular product here that can help you put in video sources to the navi screen.

NOPE, it will not work. The RL is a completely different car with different wiring. The TL has a touch screen while the RL has a knob thingy. Second the harnesses are totally different. Third, the screen would not work as the RL's is a much higher resolution compared to teh 04-06 Tl. I am not sure that the RL has ocverage in HI, but you can contact alpine/acura and see if they have a new DVD for HI as they have dvds for europe and differnet countries

Tl Navi

There isnt a mapping system for hawaii. gps works....shows me in the ocean...lol but has no map to correlate to. when i talked to dealer he told me he wouldnt bet on them including hawaii. as a matter of fact you had to special order if you wanted navi in the 05 model with a disclaimer stating you understood that coverage is continental only...... but thanks neway for help. on to upgrading to dvd and maybe aftermarket nav.......hopefully more to follow

You are correct about the controls on the RL but the harnesses are the same. I have the 07 TL-S unit, 05 RL unit and the 04 TL unit. With the exception of the extra rearview camera connector on the 07 TL-S and 05 RL units, all the connectors are the same.

The difference is that the XM unit is updated with traffic feed capabilities.

Unfortunately the RL unit will not work (as is) with the TL because the RL uses the Jog dial for input and the TL uses touch screen. As far as I know, there is no difference in the data between any of the 4.x software units. The difference is in features. The maps are common between all the units.
