Navi system. Searching by Location?
Navi system. Searching by Location?
I don't know what's going on with my Navi, but it's kind of annoying sometimes. I try to search for something nearby and I end up getting results that are a thousand miles away.
Am I missing a setting or something? My Garmin lists everything by by closest distance, but the Acura navi doesn't seem to care.

Depends on what you're trying to do. When you say 'Find Nearest Restaurant or Gas Station it works pretty well. Use the Help entries to see what all you can do via voice because it's pretty extensive. The Nav does not work well using Advanced search and looking for McDonalds or Home Depot etc- that's where I get listings 1000 miles away.
It also helps if you have the phone number to the place you looking for and entering that instead. For example, I can enter 760-943-9600, the Nav finds my nearest Home Depot. You can use Google-411 to get a phone number of a business then enter that phone number in the Nav when you don't have the phone number. I have a Google HFL entry for that very purpose.
It would be wonderful in there was a '5/10/20 mile radius search' for keywords in the POI database since that would mimic what Google411 sort of does.

Mine would change the default state to Arkansas and give me results for places 1000's of miles away. Check what state it is set on, it's in the top left corner of the first few screens.

Guys, this should solve your problem.
When doing a search, do NOT search by Name, select Category (right above the "NAME" button) first-then do your search.
So if you're searching for a McDonald's near you, choose Restaurants first and then type in McDonald's. If you want to search for a Kohl's near you, choose Shopping first and they type in Kohl's.
This works for me!
