Navi Quirks
I used the Navi on a trip to an area with unverified routing this weekend and really played with the Navi for the first time. The following are some things I noticed.
1. If you put a location in today's destinations you don't seem to get the same number of routes as you would if you input it from "my places" or input the address. For example, I went to a place that had three routes when I input it from "my places" but it only gave me the "direct" and "easy" routes when I selected it from "today's destinations".
2. You cannot save a location that is off of a mapped area such as one at the end of your breadcrumbs. You can save the to the nearest point on a mapped road and then follow the breadcrumbs.
3. The Navi didn't give me a choice of 3 routes back home (only 2) from the location it gave me 3 routes to reach. I found that rather odd.
4. If you input a series of addresses into today's destinations you cannot make the re-ordering of the addresses stick unless you are actually using them. For example, if you want to input 4 destinations and re-order them before driving to work (which you don't use the Navi for), you cannot do this until you actually start going to the destinations. If you re-order tham and get out of today's destinations, the original order will be restored.
5. I noticed this before but it still bugs me. If I am goint to a POI or one of my addresses that I have input a phone number for I cannot get access to the phone number without cancelling the route and then re-inputing the destination. It is only when you first input the destination and before you OK the Navi mapping function that the "send" command is available.
On the whole I was amazed at how well the Navi worked even in an area with incomplete mapping. I have had the car for 3 months and purchased the Navi for all the wrong reasons. I just wanted the toy. However, I have found it to be so useful. Even when I am going to places I sort of know, it is nice to not be searching for street names, particularly at night. I cannot imagine buying another car without it.
