Navi Question...
Navi Question...
I posted earlier about my Navi issue. The coverage map doesn't include much of my home province (Nova Scotia, Canada) (https://store.alpine-usa.com/Acuradv.../naviorder.php).
However... I was doing some investigating on the NavTech site. When I went to check out the updates for Acura, it sent me to the US site (http://www.navigation.com/is-bin/INT.../Default-Start).
If you look at the Map Coverage of the 2005 Acura TL, and click Map Coverage Details, a pdf file pops up of all the coverage. On page 128, you'll see Nova Scotia there.
Acura Canada says it still won't work because the US TL uses a different system than the Canadian TL. Alpine Electronics doesn't think that's the case and that they're both IPF (whatever that means lol). And she said they order their DVD's from the US. The DVD from the US is also the Orange disk.
So... WTF? lol I'm still waiting to hear back from Acura USA to see what they have to say.
Can anyone shed some light on this for me? Does the US TL use a different navigation system as than the Canadian TL as Acura Canada states? Will the US DVD that includes my home area work in my car?
So frustrating!

I was under the impression that it was the same disc used in both the US and Canada (since it includes data for both countries). Maybe Acura Canada is just saying that to force us to buy discs on this side and pay more.
Just when I was aiming to buy an update from the US - because of the cheaper price. If someone says its different, then that shovels my idea of getting the disc from the US.

If you look at the update on the USA site, you'll see some blue listed places. It states...
Canada Detailed Coverage Areas
NOTE: The blue colored city names are not included in the USA South DVD. To obtain coverage for cities listed in blue, you may contact customer service at 1-888-549-3798 to purchase the Canada DVD. DVDs are not available at your dealer.

So, the USA version seems to have Nova Scotia on it for my 2005 TL. The Canadian one doesn't. And if I come to find out it does work, Acura Canada is going to get a very angry phone call from me. And I have the name of the person who told me it wouldn't.
Where you located, tigger76? Just go on both sites and check out the different map coverage. You may still be kewl with getting the USA one.
I was out in the Maritimes last summer on a road trip and I know what you mean about the system not covering certain sections. Quite annoying (especially when you don't know the area)..
we could not get any real answers about what was on the disks for our new subdivision. we finally just went to the dealership and sat in an MDX that had the 4.73 version (supposedly latest for me that i can order) and played with it to look for my street. i think the best way is to just jump in a new vehicle on the lot and see what you get. then eject the disc and write down the version.
Halifax_TL,
I'm in Halifax too with an 04 TL Navi. I have made all the same calls you have and basically got the same answers.. It's a PTA that the navigation is useless here. I mean it would cost them nothing to apply the maps from the newer car versions to the old discs....
very VERY frusterating.
I'm sorry your disc didn't work out.. I had the understanding that only 07+ Nav worked for atlantic canada....
I'm up for ideas and will join forces with you.

The USA Navi disc barely includes any of Nova Scotia. It goes dark just to the east of Yarmouth on the Lighthouse Route and a bit to the north of Church Point on NS-101. I have a US-spec 2004 TL and drove all over Nova Scotia in July 2007. I noticed that the automatic time setting also didn't update for Atlantic Time.
Driving around for two weeks with the screen turned off was weird at first, and I really missed "find nearest gas station" when I was running out of gas in the Louisbourg area!
