I'm tearing into my trunk trying to get the navigation unit out for replacement. This is the 2007 Navigation DVD. Check out the ring on the outside. Is this normal?

it's not normal and some early type-S dvd drives would do this and were supposed to be fixed under the factory warranty which is now long gone. Does the drive work? Stick a blank disk in there and see if it gets scratched up by the laser.
So, I ran it with another CD for awhile. The drive didn't do anything to it, but I don't know if I ran it long enough. The navi unit was able to differentiate between the 2 discs though, so I think the dvd player is fine (for now).
I ordered the 2021 DVD, popped it in, the unit did its download, and navigation is back!

Main thing is that it didn't scratch the 2nd blank disk! Glad to hear it's up and running
