Navi Dimming question

I picked up my new Tl Friday. For the first few days the Navi Dimmer worked when the headlights were turned on. Now it does not. I have checked in the Navi menu to make sure the dimmer is set to auto and it is. I will also mention it does darken when i select night time in the menu.

Has anyone else scene anything like this? Is there a reset i can do besides restarting the car that may resolve the issue?

You don't have your dashboard light set to max by any chance do you??

That'll do it ... you need to turn on your headlights, dim your dashboard at least one click down from max ... the Nav uses your dashboard setting as it's guide to go to night setting. If you have it locked on max brightness it'll never go to night on the Nav.

Also in Navi Setup Screen 1, screen mode has to be in Auto.

Thank you for the reply, but I have to ask. Did you read anything that I posted above? In my opening statement I said it was on auto. Just curious.

Man what a "trick"

I guess I should have looked in the owner's manual, but I was about to post this same question... it was bugging the heck out of me that when i turn on the lights it didnt go into "night mode" (I like the inverted terrain just as much as I do the dimming). I just didnt get it... it was set to auto, but it didnt do it...

IMO it is kinda stupid that they make it based on the setting of your gauges, whether they are on max or not... If I remember right, the dimming doesnt effect all of your other lights, just the gauges... the nav has it's own brightness adjustment... Oh well... At least now i know why it wasnt auto switching to night mode.

you mean your map doesnt flip over and become 3D with you upside down??? J/K!!

Inverted, all the "land" turns from the yellowish/tan to black.

Ah ok,
For a second I thought the Navi did what the Infinit Navs do. They have a bird eye point of view function.

Nope... But... what would be awesome, is to have Google Earth in the car (with a high speed wireless internet connection too) hooked up to a GPS... It appears google earth will support that, if you go to the tools menu or something, GPS is an option, but it says only available in the pro version... if you don't know what I'm talking about when I say google earth... go download it, it's awesome... http://earth.google.com
