reason they stop the orange disk because the white disk share with other Honda/Acura platform through out the various years span, I think it up to 2005-2014 model. Anyway I am not counting on Acura actually gonna fix the issue, especially for a 17 years old car.
It doesn't really hurt them to make an updated disk for us, there are many 3rd gen TL's on the road today.

And to think you want to buy another Acura.
They don't care about you, so why care about them?
I've got my 05 TL in for service and they agreed to look at the navigation clock and calendar issue without charging because I'm doing several other things including the second 105K mile service, so I will let you know what they say.
Don't hold your breath! I'm already waiting 2½ weeks for a call back that I was originally promised would be 24-48 hours

Probably not high on their priority list. They have abandoned 3G TL owners long ago. They focus on recent paying customers it seems. After looking at the new TL yesterday, I won't be a new paying customer anytime soon.

Me neither! I have a buddy with a 10 year old Lexus who recently had an issue and called Lexus customer service. Wouldn't you know, they swooped right down on the situation without any hesitation whatsoever on their part,

I followed up with Acrua regarding my software fix DVD. They said the case is still working its way through and should hopefully be sent out Friday. I will update this thread as I learn more.
I just spoke with Acura too. They claim they're coming out with a software fix for our cars relatively soon and they'll let me know when it'll be available.
I've had my 2005 TL since early 2006 and never ran across this before:
I still use the calendar feature in my car and went to the calendar yesterday to check something. For some reason it showed 2002 instead of 2020. I went into clock adjustment and it does not allow for any adjustments and just says 0:00. The clock in the display above the nav is still correct. It didn't allow for GPS enabled time zone or anything, the whole page of setup appears to be locked out as well. Any ideas how to remedy this and what could have caused it to do this? The disk is an original 2004 orange disk, but the Nav still performs fine.

Exactl same prob but on an 04. Happened mid Dec 2020 sometime, wasnt paying attention until battery swap around then.
instead of 2002 on calendar, mines perma stuck on Jan 2001.
i saw a thread of 1999 TL users had SAME ISSUE but their calendar was perma stuck on 96, the 2000 Acura TLs said theirs were stuck on 1997.
So this "3 yrs prior to car manufacture" thing contnues to this day.
nothing worked so far: I put in the original orange disk, reloaded back to the 2006 updated map disc, and no change, no access.
GPS menues under mechanics special access key combo feature show the HOURLY gps signal accurate but indicating UTC of 19 yrs ago and started clicking up from mid May not mid Dec., while thankfully my battery replace was done at 11:30 pm so only out by 1/2 hr.
the audio response using the steering wheel controls perma says "twelve... A.M." and never changes.
As I wrote before (but doesnt seem to shiw here) Canada Acura doesnt care abt us owners in various past issues except extreme recalls. They gave me the "spend $200 for an estimate and exam" answer; allegedly I was only Canuck to call in abtt the prob ((I DOUBT IT!))
So heres hoping the fixit disc works for you folks, and we can try a burn of our own to fix ours too. Given this is a PROBLEM that isnt wesr or our cause, I DO NOT CONSIDER sharing images of a fix disc to be "copyright issue". Someone can orove me wrong if they want....

That's why I'm upgrading to the '07/8 Nav system as the white disk has little or no copy protection, not to mention CURRENT updates. A new Disk for 2021 is coming out next month.
Hopefully, the designer of the '07/8 system wasn't braindead when he/she designed these routing algorithms unlike the '04/5/6's.

Got tired of waiting for Acura to get off their asses, so I purchased a '07/8 screen and Nav DVD drive on ebaY. Got an adaptor for the screen from Martin in FL to be able to plug in (retrofit) the newer screen. What a difference! Not only does the clock and calendar now work correctly, but the new graphics and functionality are a dream. It's much faster on bootup too! I highly recommend those of you out there with an '04/5/6 TL with Navigation to do the same thing. You'll NEVER look back! An updated 2021 version of the white disk is coming out next month to boot!
I'm now have a TL with all the things we were supposed to have for 2004. Daytime running lights, a Backup Camera, '07/8 Turn Signal Mirrors, and the '07/8 Nav system.

I am new to Acurazine, but certainly not to the navigation DVD player failure and clock issue. I've just finished going around, and around, and around, with both. I found a solution to both and wanted to share what I found out in hopes that it will save others a lot of time and headaches. First of all, the DVD player issue. I own a great 2005 TL and about 5-6 years ago the nav went out. Not a big deal since my wife/I use Waze on our phones for navigation. However, more recently we had to replace the car's battery. Because power was pulled during the installation, the tech told us we had to reset the navigation with its code and the radio with its code. Resetting the radio was easy ... just used the preset button (1-6) to enter the radio code and bingo, the radio was back. HOWEVER, we also wanted to reset the clock ... and since those controls cannot be reset unless you have a nav screen working, we were dead in the water. I decided to see if I could repair the DVD player so I could access those and other settings. Here's what I found:
1. None of the 3 Acura dealers in my area had any idea on solutions other than to estimate a repair that was quoted at being between $800 - $1,200 and that was if 'Acura' (really Alpine) could fix it.
2. I called Alpine on my own. They will still fix the DVD navigation unit. You first ship your unit to them and they charge a $50 bench test/diagnostic fee to tell you whether it can or can't be fixed. If it can be fixed, they charge $358. If it can't be fixed they will mail it back to you as it was ... or, if you are lucky, and they happen to have a rebuilt unit in stock, they will sell that to you for $458. No matter what, with shipping it was going to be about a $400-$500 fix (and certainly much better than what the dealerships would charge).
3. I then found a GREAT resource ... OEM Car Audio in Minnesota. They charge $35 to bench test (you pay for mailing it to them). If the unit is repairable (most are), they charge about $175-$200. Sure enough, mine was repairable and OEM turned it around in one week for a cost of $200 (shipping included)! Their head tech, Jon, was super to work with ... very knowledgeable about radios, stereo systems, DVD players, etc. I sent my original "Orange" series nav DVD that came with the car in 2005 and the DVD player to them .... when returned I plugged it back in and it worked perfectly ... my navigation screen lit up, all access to settings including stereo (balance, fader, sub-woofer, etc.) were restored. I was so pleased!
4. However ... the ONE thing that didn't work was the clock reset screen/buttons. The nav screen produced a "0:00" clock versus the upper dashboard digital clock display that read 1:00. I went back in and tried to increase or decrease by the + or - buttons the hour(s) or minutes ... no movement/response. I read AccuraZine blogs about this happening to many owners back in 2017 for no apparent reason. Again, the Acura dealers did not have a clue on how to fix it. So I called the owner, Jon, of OEM back to let him know everything was working great and how pleased I was to have my nav system back (but no clock). He told me that his company has been dealing with this issue, not only on Acuras, but GM has a similar problem, and that it is all linked to a bug in the satellite/GPS system files. He told me that calling Acura Owners (Technology Support Line) will be a fruitless endeavor and that they will take my issue down, give me a case number and then never have a solution. Sure enough ... I called them and they did exactly that ... they do NOT have a solution. They do not (as some have suggested) have a magic DVD you can insert which will resolve it .... at least not one for my series of 2005-era TL's. Some have also suggested that if you buy the latest updated mapping Orange DVD disc (done in 2014) that this will solve things. Jon from OEM told me that it will absolutely NOT fix the clock issue ... but if having the 'latest' mapping GPS that is now 7 years old for the $99 cost Acura charges is of high value, then go for it. That's when I found another solution for the clock matter (see #5 below).
5. The solution to the clock issue suggested by someone else in the AcuraZine blogs was effective ... and simple. Since the clock always seemed to reset to exactly 1:00 when the battery was reconnected ... I simply disconnected power one night and the next day, at 12:59 p.m. reconnected the terminals ... and bingo ... my clock read 1:00! Problem solved.
So ... to summarize: 1. Older DVD Nav units can be repaired (you can spend $358 with Alpine or $175-$200 at OEM); 2. You can hopefully 'fix' your 0:00 clock issue (as I was able to) by simply disconnecting battery power and then reconnecting at 1:00 p.m. ... the only down side will be that once daylight savings time starts/ends in spring/fall, you'll need to repeat the process (which took all of 5 minutes).
One final thing ... I am grateful to other folks who posted information on AcuraZine as well as YouTube for things about repairing/removing the DVD player in the trunk. It took me perhaps 30-minutes to remove the carpet and pull back the gray carpet material on the right side trunk area (a few simple plastic pop rivets) to get access to the DVD player. Then you simply pull the wire harnesses out from the back of the nav unit and remove 4 screws and the unit pops out ... quite simple.
I hope this helps someone out there. I can't say enough about OEM Car Audio and Jon. Here's their information:
They more than likely only replaced your DVD mechanism as that was probably what was wrong. OEM CarAudio tried to rip me off a few months back on a stereo repair. Apparently, they only replace the drive mechanism itself no matter what else may be wrong despite they're claiming they fix it all no matter what may be wrong with the unit. I had a tape player issue that needed work and they told me they don't repair tape players any more. In repeated calls to them, they nicely told me to go screw myself. Long story short, I got my money back from ebaY, On their ebaY listings, the button for the repair form that you need to fill out doesn't work, and still doesn't to this day despite they're being informed about it months ago. I had dealt with them a number of years ago and had no problem, then. Nowadays, it's another story.
There's an inherent bug in the '04/5/6 software causing this clock/calendar issue that Acura doesn't give a damn about at this stage of our car's life. Besides, with the '07/8 Navigation system, you can still get an updated disk for 2021, not something 7 years out of date. So take a word of advice from someone who's owned one of these cars for 17 years and has been through it all. See post #35, a hell of a lot cheaper than continuing to bang your head on the wall trying to make an obviously obsolete system work.
.
Might be a dumb question. But could you share where you got the NAV DVD from?
ebaY for the drive and display panel. Martin in FL for the adaptor to be able to plug in the '07/8 display, $55 w/shipping. PM me for his contact info. https://acuranavi.navigation.com/home/en_US/AcuraNA/USD for the disk.

Interesting.
I've tried some of the easier DIY fix in that huge thread, but to no avail and mine in my 06 has been broken for 5+ years and honestly doesn't bother me much. I need to reset the clock again using the battery disconnect trick.
But out of tech/geek curiosity....I assume that Alpine DVD unit is a fairly standard "DVD player" so to speak....and I wonder if its possible to replace the internals yourself or if there are ways to source working parts to do so DIY...

Probably, but even with 2 electronics degrees, I won't try it myself. I found it a lot easier and cheaper to go the '07/8 route. Even though the drive I purchased on ebaY came with a 2009 disk in it and despite the fact that I'm still waiting for the 2021 disk to arrive, I still have not looked back on this decision, never will, and neither would you.

Yeah good point....DIY/backyard/ghetto-rigging/fixing is never as good as finding a working unit that was built by the OEM. This 07/08 retrofit into the 04-06 TLs is very interesting and awesome data point.
Did you already wire up a backup camera in your TL?
I'll look into this if I ever stop being lazy....it is a bit sad since my 06 TL is relegated to daily beater status and since it was broken from when I bought it my eyes almost now ignores that entire screen area, lol. It gets me where it needs to go and I use my phone for navi anyway....only downside is the clock adjustment which is a tad bit annoying.
Another question - does the navigation unit/screen require a separate code as well? I assume we'll need to make sure whomever we buy off of eBay provides that code?

Yes, I have a backup camera.....for about 4 years now. Used the Navtool to install it. The screen is plug 'n play with Martin's adaptor and doesn't require a separate code. Only the DVD drive unit requires a code which the seller typically supplies. The only thing you need to get used to is how Bluetooth now works. No longer can you say CALL or DIAL followed by the # in 1 shot. It's now a simple 2 step process where you hit the talk button on the steering wheel say DIAL or CALL, then let the voice system say WHAT NAME or NUMBER. Then you can recite the # and you're good to go! Took me awhile to figure it out.
After recently replacing my battery, I found that the clock was showing the incorrect time, and could not be adjusted.
So following the direction of the above post #37, I disconnected the negative battery post, and re-connected it at exactly 1pm. I am now happy to report that the clock displays the correct time. Many thanks to Acurazine, and the members that share these helpful bits of information.
Everyone needs to chill here. Honda acknowledged the problem and is issuing a fix. I checked on my case yesterday and they are waiting on additional disks to be produced. I am pretty shocked they are even fixing it given how old our cars are.
Not to get to far off topic, but regarding the nav fix, you can swap out the disk drive for new one purchased off alibaba ($80). However, that is not a guaranteed fix. I tried this with my 05 MDX and new disk drive didn't work. I eventually sent it back to Alpine because unlike the TL, the MDX nav screen controls way more than just the navigation. They replaced the disk drive and the power electronics board. Works good as new now.
If you can continue to live with the calendar staying wrong ............ Not that that's a major thing, but from here on, whenever you have a dead battery or have to disconnect the battery for whatever reason, you have to make sure that happens at 1:00

Yeah, they know there's a problem, but what evidence do you have that they're issuing a fix? In all my attempts at talking with them, they finally admitted after the 3rd call they knew about it, but never confirmed the forthcoming issuance of a new disk. And if they do issue a new disk, will it be updated ala the 2021 white disk with all roads and points of interest being current?
I took the best way out and installed the '07/8 Nav system, problem solved! This way, I can get updated Nav disks so we won't be completely obsolete for the foreseeable future!
DMZ you took what you believe to be the best route for you. It is not the best route for me. The 1:00 method cost zero dollars to have an accurate clock. No one uses the calendar, so that is not an issue. A new disc does not work either because you cannot eliminate the nag screen and insert custom splash screens any longer. That mod is probably my favorite of all time and is used at every start up. It is also not worth it to me to have a couple updated roads as the OEM Navi is just for overall functionality of the system and any critical navigation is phone based.
It's about having a system that's faster and works much better, not to mention screens more pleasing to the eye. Yeah, I occasionally use my phone too, but I'd rather the Nav system do whatIT'Ssupposed to do - one of the things I paid for when I bought this car 17 years ago. That's just me. I don't have custom splash screens anyway.
My overall review of the differences between the '04/5/6 and the '07/8 systems is forthcoming. Meanwhile, feel free to ask anyone that's performed this conversion on their car what they think.
