Hi all. Just got my new TL with Nav System - Blue with Camel interior. I LOVE IT!! I have been fooling around with the entire car abd have found something that has stumped me. I am having touble finding places. Let me explain.

I was looking for Linens N' Things in my (Boston) area. I went to Places - Name and typed out the name. What came up was Linens N' Things corporate and NOTHING in my area, when I know there was one about 5 miles away (I wanted the phone #). So I then tried by going Places - Category - Shopping - and I think I entered by Keyword Linen and up came the listing for the one I wanted.

You would think that if you hit places and name and entered the name that it would come up, versus going through the trouble of entering categories, etc.

Can someone help me figure out a better way to find a "Place".

I still love my TL - but would love the Nav function better if I knew how to do this!

Its definetly tricky at times, and it sucks that not all stores of the same name are labled as such in the navi system, but they are pulling the listings from a database, so the navi can only be as robust as the database provided to it, I wish I could just do keyword from the get go without having to use a category, because sometimes your destination won't fit a category or you dont know what category it would fit under... ah well

 

If you know the catergory, use:
Places - By Catergory - CAT NAME - Place Name by Keyword - Sort by Distance to Travel
For Restraunts, when the sub menu comes up choose ALL Types

But I did find you can reverse this a little
Places - By Name - (example) Burger King - Restraunt - and up pops the list already sorted by distance.

But I do agree with cTLgo, its the Database that needs to be cleaned, not the Navi's brains. I found certain Fast Food joints and other popular items had all kinds of catergories they belonged to. Sometimes I would pick an off the wall catergory and only 1 listing would come back and its for like a Burger King (or whatever) in Bumsville Idaho. The people who make the Database (Not Acura NOR Alpine (makes the NAVI)) need to have a team of people cleaning up the DB for some of the most popular locations by name before it goes out. But with Millions of POIs, I guess its hard.
