Nav System Cd Update

I have a O4 TL built in September 03. Can someone tell me if a newer nav cd has come out sinsce then? Especially for the anyone in the Boston MA area. The Nav system does not have all the updates for the BIG DIG programed.

Thanks

Also is it possible just to burn a new cd of the update.

Thanks

I think our GPS runs on a DVD and not a CD. I think there has been an upgrade since yours was released. Do a search, I remember a couple of threads on this topic.

According to the site, latest version is 3.30G. First you want to pull your disk and see if you have an earlier version. Then try and find someone with the new version to see if it's what you need.

It's $185. and on back-order.

I wonder why the site shows the latest update as 3.30G, but my 2005 TL has a version of 3.40A..

I think it hasn't been updated, they don't even have 2005 models listed as an option.

I think the site is keyed in to 2004 models as the latest vehicles for which the DVD may be ordered. I don't think you can order the 3.40a just yet. I'm just guessing here.

Hmm...if I were a 2004 TL owner I'd certainly want the latest DVD available. Why wouldn't they offer the 3.40A version for 2004 vehicles?

Isn't the NAV system the same in both?

Simple economics.............Rather than buy a disc for $185, they would prefer that you bought a new TL with the latest DVD for $35K. That's the Amurican Way! lol

Wonder if the dealer would let someone bring their laptop and borrow that disc for 10 minutes :P That really is ridiculous though, $185 for a map -_-

If you think that's bad, just be glad you don't own a Lexus. They sell their upgrade DVDs for a rapacious ~$600.

That's what DVD-R burners are for....
Not unless your burner can do dual-layer discs.

That happened with the 2nd gens as well. They apparently do software updates a little more often than the map updates. Software updates are distributed on CD - whereas the full release (with map updates) is released on a DVD. We've had people who did forced downloads on a system showing that is was running 2.05, just to find they were downgraded to 2.03 after the download.

The map data should be the same between both. I imagine if you pulled that DVD out of the unit it might actually say 3.30G (not 3.40A).

Whatever you do, don't do a forced download from the maintenance menu!

BTW - no - the software updates are generally not made available for sale. You have to wait for the next full release.

I actually did pull the DVD out and 3.40A was the version printed on it. But thanks for the info about the forced download!
