No group buy. PCMicroStore.com occasionally has the MG-35 on sale. I picked mine up back in Dec.

Recently, their site has a lot of downtime.

Check out dealnews for recent offers.

yep i hear that, i'm not going to hinder the portability though. i'm going to build a female 3-pin adapter into the case so i can unplug the IR sensor from it. Similar to those female pin adapters found on the back of hard drives and cd drives, but smaller. and a male adapter that will plug into it

Newegg is the bomb!!!

I ordered mine from there as well except I opted for a western digital 120GB HDD for maximum music and movies!!! I use western digital all the time and they have never gone out on me(knock on wood)!!!

I just checked up on my Gefen IR extender on the way and it appears it will be here in a day or two. I really hope that damn thing works, Im getting tired of opening my armrest console to access the media player.

The hard part is finding the external IR sensor so that we can mount the media player out of sight. The manufacturer doesnt seem to be helping our cause. People are finding a number of different solutions for the power adapter now, yours included.

I would imagine so, the one special-ed has, you can read from the pic that it is 5volts and 2amps. Good find!!!

This is exactly the same approach that I have, except I have not got around to build the box. Rigth now, I just have the RCA cable freely laying out under my car seat. Me and FADE are thinking alike.

I did not want to cut holes in my car at all. I liked the idea of having the rca connectors mounted so you could quick connect / disconnect. So that’s why I got the break out box / power converter. I am making a small wooden box to mount it in under my passenger seat. So I can just plug the Avox in and hook it up to the rca right there. Makes it very portable. I can also plug in a ps2 or any other console I want with this set up with out having to tear the car apart again. I only want to have to do that once. So I have all my parts but the eye now. It is keeping me from doing my install. Really starting to get aggravated about it.

After seeing 2 people remove the metal bar behind the console, I might redo my system.

Special-ed can you take a picture of what you cut out of the back of the top shelf to fit the mediagate in there?

What about the DUMB ones?

What about those of us who don't get all this gadgetry stuff and SHOULD NEVER attempt this by ourselves? I would be willing to pay someone to do it for me. Or am I.........................................

NO THEY DON'T! Trust me. After helping a friend with his install, we tried using a non-SONY car adapter since we automatically assumed it would have the same specs. That's why if on the box it says some b.s. about it being "compatible to the sony car adapter" etc, don't even trust it. We found this out the hard way. Thought he was saving himself 15 bucks from going the non-Sony route then later realized the unit was only a 5V/500ma car adapter. Had to purchase the Sony unit anyway.

So unless the specs read 5V/2A, I wouldn't trust it unless the store is cool with taking back purchases where you have to totally rip apart the plastic packaging just to get to the car adapter itself.

Just to clarify, the Mediagate MG-25 (what special-ed has) does not have the external IR port as the Mediagate MG-25P (Vantec AVOX).

With the AVOX, you can mount it anywhere, provided you find an IR extension cable that works.

Both MG-25 and MG-25P use the same firmware, power adapters, video cables, and remote.

well if you're in the bay area, I could do it. I've got one other member who's asking if I could do the install but I just don't know how much or what a fair price would be. Gonna ask my buddy at his car stereo shop and then will knock off some dollars.

yup, correct which is why it was priority 1 for me to install it in the center compartment underneath the radio.

yea, that was my initial plan as well, but after I took the center console apart and I saw the metal bar, I decided to go with another location.

I didn't want to cut/trim that metal bar.

untamed said he was able to do it without cutting the metal bar. I am interested in how since I noticed it was very tight behind there. I hope his wires aren't squished together behind there.

I am located in the Dallas area. We don't have any "Bay's" around here so it sounds like you are "far away on the left".

I'll go to my guy either tonight or tomorrow and see if he can get anymore of these things. Its not really cheap....$35 + shipping, but it works. If anyone is interested in these pm me so I can get an idea of quantity needed. I'll give you actual shipping charges, I'm not ebay here.

I took an old y adapter, cut it open and swapped the red and white wires. Guess what works now! I cut up the Y so if it didn’t work I could still send the eye back. So now I got to clean up the splice and I think I can start my install. I am going to build my box tomorrow to mount my power connector. Probably take the car apart Friday night and finish it up Saturday. Yeah !!!

I really hope it works. They killed me on shipping there. $9 for the cheapest shipping solution.

I figure if it doesnt work at first I will try to swap the red and white wires like crook did. I guess I will really be SOL if that doesnt work either. I also hope its not a sub mini plug so I dont have to put the 3/32 to 1/8 adapter on it. Im limited on room in the back of the AVOX unit.

Wish me luck!!!

THIS ONE WORKS. JUST GOT IT TODAY AND IT FRIGGIN WORKS. HAPPY FRIGGIN JOY!!!! :gheywave:

I found a site that has them for a pretty good price. For those who are interested, I could call to see how many they have in stock, and then buy a bulk (to get a bit of a discount), then send them to you guys.

FYI......

I just found this online.... it's a similar item to the Mediagate MG-25P... and it's also more compact & inexpensive, however, I don't think it has the remote eye option.

Enjoy guys,
