My Girl just got a anthracite with gray leather non nav 2005 TL. Greatest coler combo out there in my opinion. She got it with 28k miles and payed 21,800.
She got it at a infinaty dealer and they had no clue how to unlock the phone and the local acura dlr wants $200 to unlock it. If i dissconnect the battery for a few moments will that do the trick or is there any other way instead of paying $200??
Help a fellow Acura owner.
2001 CL type - s 130,000 miles still going strong.

Thanks guys!!

No, the code is specific to the car I believe. Disconnecting the battery under normal circumstances would just make you have to put in the code, for anyone, even if it was a brand new Acura.

Have the Acura dealer fix it and then give the Infinity dealership the bill.

I think its the prevouse owners code to activate his bluetooth for his phone.
I dont think its a dlr code like the radio's have!

If that's true, and you have the radio code, then disconnect it and see what happens. Not like it's gonna hurt anything. But don't do it if you don't have the radio code. I have Navi, so I don't know if there is a separate code for HFL if you don't have Navi. So try it.

Hurry up! LOL!

It has nothing to do with the radio or nav code. It's a code set up by the previous owner. It's a PIN that they decide on so that to help secure the bluetooth connection. The dealer can reset the system for you, but it will cost. It's a security feature.

Is that something we all decide on initially when we first use it? I don't remember doing that...hmmm...I wonder if I did...damn, and I don't smoke even!

you should be able to add a new phone. unplugging the battery for a while will reset all of the old bluetooth data. you will need the navi/radio codes to reactivate those, so make sure you have both...

Non navi, but yeah, you need radio code.

Just add another phone and use that one with your chosen code. Don't worry about deleting the current phone or code and it will work fine.

Like was said be sure to have the codes for the radio and nav(if equipped) if disconnecting the battery.

just unplug the battery for 10-15 min it should wipe it clean. Or ask the dealer when you take it for an oil change.

WOW! She got it from a DEALER for THAT price! She did fantastic! In order to unlock the Navi, Bluetooth, etc you will need the navi code. Most people simply keep it with the owners manual (I know, not real secure but hey you know how people are).

Oops - Saturday Night Live moment I guess. I didn't even realize it was non-Navi. It's still a good price though (from a dealer). I guess my rec doesn't help.

Why would you think this is a warranty item?

They might "good will" it, but this is NOT a warranty issue; this "feature" is working EXACTLY as designed.

Instead of unplugging the battery, which would cut power to the entire electrical system...

Just pop out and plug back in Fuse #7 in the interior panel (by your feet on driver's side above the engine bay lever). Fuse #7 controls the HandsFreeLink (HFL) system as well as the Trip Computer.... so you'll reset your trip records.

The Radio is another fuse, so since you're not messing with that, you shouldn't need to re-enter in the radio code.

The post says she purchased at an Infinity dealer so I would guess they're taking it to a local Acura dealer who won't do them any favors since the car wasn't purchased from them.

Definitely not a something you could claim under warranty.

It has to be done with the tablet, it's not like locking the address book in the nav where the nav code can over ride a PIN.

The way this was initially set up was the original owner going into the "System Setup" in HFL (accessed by pushing the bluetooth button and saying "system set up").

It runs through a few options such as whether you want a ring tone or a voice prompt for incoming calls as well as the PIN for security.

Again, the car needs to be hooked up to the Tablet and reset from there.

There is a tsb for that. http://www.in.honda.com/Rjanisis/pubs/SN/B070500.PDF On Page 2.

You should be able to pair/save another bluetooth device. I believe the code is specific to each paired device, so adding a new phone will need a different code. If you put the phone in discover mode and use the "setup" and "pair" commands under handsfree it should work.

if all else fails, talk to the infiniti dealer and tell them that they have to foot the bill

So you got some time to read the TSB... Better talk to Infiniti and tell them that itll cost the $200 that you said.

What I would do, go into acura, and dont be like "uhhh.... can you clear the password on the bluetooth..." Go in there knowing what you're talking about, and tell them that it doesn't cost $200.... Basically suck up to the rep... cuz I know it costs less than $50, but thats here in Missouri.

Guys, I dont think you can access HFL to even program another phone, because you have to press the talk button to get into HFL, and once you press the talk button its gotta be prompting for the password. so thats out of the question. The battery disconnection may work....

Good find, but that's actually a Tech Line Service Article. If it were a TSB, it'd be covered by warranty.

It says:

Quote:
There’s actually one further option available, but it’s kind of a heavy-handed approach: clearing the system. It’s a straight-forward procedure that anyone can do and you don’t need an HDS. Consider this option carefully, though, because it not only clears the password, it also clears any paired phones and all entries in the phonebook. If you choose to go this route, you’ll find the procedure in the applicable O/M.
And that sounds like what the OP needs. But I cannot find in the Owners Manual (O/M?) where it tells you how to "Clear" everything.

This may be the "system clear" ("system delete"?) function. It clears everything, paired phones, the phone book, and resets the factory default settings.

The problem is, it's going to ask you for the security number.

Agreed. You have to go into HFL to do that

I'm sure you're right. This has been discussed before.

I think the Tech Line Article is either wrong or mis-leading.

It says, the way I read it, that if don't have the passcode, don't have HDS that ANYBODY can get in and "Clear the System". But that does not seem to be correct.

I tried system clear and that does not let me do it w/o password.
Are you guys sure that dissconnecting the battery for a few min will erase the password.
I know it resets the radio s it should reset the blue tooth shouldnt it?
thanks guys...

First try to delete the phone. Press the talk button and say "delete" It will ask you if you want to delete the phone. Press talk and say "yes" this sould remove the phone from the hfl. Then try and pair the phone again.

Welcome to the forums.

I deleted your reply in the other thread. There is no point in posting a reply like this in an almost 3 year old thread, particularly when you have posted the same reply here.

I checked this reference. It discusses using the HDS then the procedure "anyone" can do subject to the warning you'll lose all remember phones (which I don't care about given I just got the car used). It says, refer to the O/M, which I assume to be the owner's manual.

I check, it, and my '06 TL manual says:

"Clearing the system

This operation clears the HFL of your passcode, your paired phones, and all names in the HFL phonebook. Clearing is recommended before you sell your vehicle.

To clear the system, do this:
1. Press and release the Talk button. After the beep, say "System". The HFL response is "System options are setup and clear"

..."

the problem is, when the system is LOCKED, you cannot even get to the part of the system that permits you to say "Setup". At least, I have been unsuccessful in getting it to recognise "Setup".

So, it seems to me, the reference above isn't entirely correct unless I'm really missing something.

Now, I see tons of mention of removing power, but no one coming back and saying "It worked for me". Has anyone been successful at removing power (popping the fuse or removing the Neg cable) for an extended period of time and getting it to reset?

thanks
-jc

Same issue
Hi. I just picked up a 2005 TL (non nav) today from Carmax. Haven't taken it in to Acura yet, but I plan on making Carmax reimburse me for the fee Acura is going to charge me for unlocking the HFL.

I'll repost once all has been resolved.
