Motorola V710

Last Friday I was on the Acura website looking for phones compatibile with the TL's hands free link. It is web page:

http://www.acura.com/models/model_co....asp?module=tl

(click on phone icon, then click on phone compatibility)

It listed the Moto V710 as being compati ble, as long as it had the proper software upgrqade. Tonight I went to the same page, and the V710 is no longer listed. Does anybody know why? Thanks?

Strange, but you're correct in that the 710 is no longer listed. Hold on.....I'm going to run out to my TL to make sure it still works.

Whew. Still works. Was worried that the XM Radio satellite feed was getting software updates from Verizon and disabling the v710's beacon. As a precaution, I'm going to put duct tape on the XM antenna for a few weeks. Yeah, I'll lose my radio and navi, but I'll be able to keep my 710. I've got so much porn on the TF card (gotta love video phones) that comes in handy on long plane flights, I couldn't live without it.

Bolt, no need to go through all that. I heard that Verizon stores are going to be releasing a software update that addresses all the incompatibility issues next Thursday starting at 6:00 pm. The best thing about it is they are also planning on feeding the first 50 people who come in to upgrade their phones. You might want to line up early before they run out of candied yams!!

Although we dont have all the features we would like to work with the TL - Put your V710 on vibrate (the TL likes that but you also need to make sure your navi system is set to use the female voice!) and the phone works great with the car.

Status of firmware update

I talked with both Motorola and Acura trying to understand the status of the new firmware. Motorla told me that the upgrade is still in process. It won't be released in Nov. but should be out some time in December. When asked what issues it would deal with I was told it would fix most issues, specifically it would include the ability to transfer the a phone book to the car and a computer [by bluetooth not cable]. She said that the profiles would be compatable with HFL. When I asked if this meant the OBEX would be enabled she said, "OBEX will compatable with the car". I take that to mean that is the only place it will work, not completely unblocked. She also said that the signal strenght would show...she wasn't sure about the battery. She said the best way to check would be to look at the news or phone download sections of the Moto web site.

Acura confirmed what we all expected about having listed the V710 with a specific software version and then taken it off the approved list. Basically, Acura just got frustrated with Moto telling them there was a fix and then not providng the code or coming out with a phone that Acura could test to certify they had addressed the issues. Acura sounded as frustrated with Moto as most people are who have the phone. The tech said that the phone book transfer problem is that each handset manfacturer stored the phone book in a different file code on the handset. He also said that there is no way to change the HFL software that is in the car.

Given how many programmable "computers" there are in this car it sounds like the guy was either trying to blow you off with this comment or Acura needs to get a new OEM for it's handsfree hardware.

The idea that they would add such a new feature and not be able to upgrade for bug fixes is dumbfounding at best.

Thanks for the info. I JUST got my V710. Did you get the feeling from your conversations that the upgrade is really gonna happen???

Personally, I think there will be a software/firmware update to address the phone's issues, but the way things have been going, I don't expect it out by the end of the year. Hopefully, they will prove me wrong, but I'm holding out more hope that Santa will bring this nice little Jewish boy a jackpot-winning lottery ticket.

Well, bought my V710 yesterday and "paired" it to my TL last night. The phone works quite well in HFL mode in terms of its clarity. It would be helpful if at least the signal strength meter displayed since my travels take me out in to counties where reception is spotty.
