Motorola V710
Motorola V710
I'm thinking about getting this Motorola phone model V710. It's a bluetoth phone. Does anyone own this phone and does it work well with our car?
Thnx for the help.

I just bought the Verizon Bluetooth Mortorolla V710 phone , its awesome. I don't have to scream into the microphone for people to hear me. Just talk naturally, no breakups, dropped calls, and very easy to use. I recommend it. It's not cheap though $299.99 but worth it in my book.
Apparently there's a recall of all V710s in dealer stock. The recall has to do with the camera of all things! Do a Google search and you'll get the whole story.
You'll probably be unable to find the camera 'til Motorola replaces what's currently in dealer stock with the revised version. I also assume that current owners will be getting replacement phones.
That said, the phone's great and the camera sucks! The HFL works well, the built-in speakerphone is very handy, and reception is better than any other phone I've ever had.
Regards,

If you're with Verizon, which I assume you are since you're looking at this phone, waiting for something better may not be desirable, since it may be months before they release another BT phone. Yes, there are some VERY minor issues with the TL's HFL (namely, no signal and battery meter indicators), but otherwise, the phone works very well.
There are certainly cheaper phones out there, especially since they tried to throw in every feature but a flushable toilet, but for Verizon BT functionality, the V710 is all there is. If you decide against the V710, your choice, then, becomes switch carriers or wait for something new.
I do have this phone, and I love it. It gets a great signal, has loud non-musical ringers (which seems to be a difficult combination to find nowadays... of course, it still has several musical ones for those so inclined), and works fine with the TL's HFL. In my opinion, the price may be a good reason to pass it by, but the minor problems you'll run into with the HFL aren't.
Of course, there's also the fact that Verizon crippled some of the BT features to try to force you to use airtime for transferring files/pics/sounds, but I seriously doubt that their next BT phone will be any different. That's a Verizon thing, and it will continue to be true across their BT line, until they get enough grief from their customers, then they'll drop it completely. Again, if this is an issue with you, switch carriers, or wait. At least, with the V710 you have the option (for now, at least) to get around this via the transflash card.

I have been told that Verizon will be introducing two additional BT phones in the coming months. I don't have any specifics on timing or details of the phones and features. I did get this information from a Verizon outlet manager however.
I've had one since the end of July. The only issues I have with it are the (slightly) tilted camera, which I don't use anyway (can I cut that crap out of the phone?), and the fact that I can't see battery strength or signal strength in my TL. Other than that, I just use the phone to talk, and it excells at that.
Verizon recalled their stock of V710s exclusively because of the camera.

I have this phone. Do not listen to the naysayers, it is awesome. Yes, Verizon is out, I just got mine on eBay. Even the camera works fine I think (something minor wrong with it? I can't tell.) It pairs perfectly with the TL and works and sounds like a dream. I don't live in the car so I really don't care about the battery and signal indicators....this phone has plenty of battery. Get one, you'll like it.
I have been having a problem with my V710 BT in 2004 TL. The problem is when I get a call, the first time it never answers and drops the call. When the person calls again, because the first call was dropped, it picks up. During these calls, I touch nothing and it consistently shows this behavior.

Another source for V710
I have just picked up a new RL and have existing Verizon service so I have been closely following the V710. I have purchased sevral phones at a independant Southern California cellphone store. It sells phones for all of the service providers [and service for all providers]. They are independant so when you go in they have no axe to grind. Anyway, I talked to the manager who closely monitors problems with the phones he sells. He carries the V710 and has since it first came out. He orginally bought them through Verizon but stopped after the first batch had various problems [software glitches and the 5 key would stick]. He has since been buying the phone direct from Motorola.
He said Motorola produced a large order for Verizon [1.5 million units]. after the problems Verizon pulled the phones and is fighting with motorola about taking them all back or fixing them. Until that is worked out, Verizon won't have the phone.
He also said that Motorola makes small software changes frequently [weekly?] so he is now ordering 5 phones everyday, rather than say 100 to 200 so he can always have the most current updates. His advice to me was to wait another 2 to 4 weeks before buying. His expectation is that most of the problems will be corrected by then.
He suggested calling Motorola to complain about the locking out Verizon requires in their orders. No reason Moto could not sell the phone directly to independant dealers unlocked. Motorola has no reason to care since they are not selling the serivce. The issue is whether their relationship with a big customer [Verizon] is more important than their relationship to the public.

Then there's the updated Treo 650; I would imagine Verizon would carry it as soon as it's really OUT. I know it's got BT, but I don't know if anyone's got one to see how well it works with HFL.
I wonder what weird alignment of the stars has made Verizon so BT-poor, and some other carriers so BT-rich?
